The first test mules for the all-new Audi Q1 SUV have been spotted testing on international roads. Based on the MQB platform – the same that underpins the Volkswagen Golf – the Q1 is expected to enter production in 2016 and is part of a series of new SUVs to be launched by the company.
As can be seen from the images, the Q1 has a prominent front grille, raked headlamps, a rising belt line and a sharply raked rear windscreen.
Under the bonnet, the production version of the compact SUV is expected to carry over the engines from the A3 sedan and be offered in both front-wheel and four-wheel-drive avatars.
Audi is expected to showcase a concept version of the production Q1 sometime later this year. The all-new compact SUV will be manufactured at the company’s new Ingolstadt plant. Audi has also confirmed that it is developing the all-new Q8, a sportier version of the new Q7 and the all-new Q6 which will be a spin-off of the Q5 in the same manner as the BMW X6 is a spin-off of the X5.
