As the media days of Auto expo are over, let’s have a look on 15 SUVs and Compact SUVs showcased at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida.
1) Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
We will be starting with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza as it was the most anticipated product to be showcased at the auto expo. The car will be launched against the likes of Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. The automaker will launch the car by March or April end. It will be only introduced in the diesel engine and to be precise, 1.3-litre DDiS200 engine which gives an output of 90PS and peak torque of 200Nm.
2) Honda BR-V
Honda too unveiled India bound BR-V at the event show. The SUV comes packed with the tried and tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. It is based on the Brio, Amaze, Mobilio platform and upon its launch it will pitched against the likes of Ford EcoSport, TUV300, Renault Duster and recently launched Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.
3) Tata Nexon Compact SUV
Pratap Bose, Tata’s design head received a lot of appreciation of this nearly-production-ready vehicle. It will be powered by 1.2-litre petrol motor and 1.05-litre diesel engine. The company will launch the Nexon compact SUV in upcoming months as first, they will launch the Zica hatch and even before that, they will change the name of it’s Zippy Car because of the Zika virus attack.
4) XUV500 Aero
XUV500 Aero is Mahindra concept model which will soon take a shape of production model. The coupe-like SUV will be placed above XUV500. It is expected to carry forward the recently launched 1.9-litre engine tuned to offer 140bhp of power.
5) Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli
Among many, Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli too made its India debut at the Indian Auto Expo 2016. The automaker will launch the SUV in upcoming months as the vehicle is already on test for quite some time in India. The India-bound SsangYong Tivoli will come in both petrol and diesel engine options. Power for the vehicle comes from 1.6-litre petrol & diesel engines, which are the same that power the global model as well.
6) Nissan X-Trail
Nissan? has unveiled ?X?-?Trail? ?Hybrid? at the Motor Show 2016. X-Trail? becomes the first SUV in India with Hybrid technology. India will be the fourth market in the world after Japan, Thailand and Indonesia where Nissan will have introduced the X-Trail Hybrid. The car comes equipped with the 2.0-litre MR20 DD petrol engine twinned with an advanced 31kw electric motor that enables both driving and environmental performance.
7) BMW X1
The German luxury carmaker took the full advantage of the Indian Auto Expo platform and launched its premium SUV at Rs 29.9 lac (Ex-showroom, New Delhi). This is the updated version of the ongoing X1 in India and is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine which produces 190bhp of power with a max torque of 400Nm.
8) Volkswagen Tiguan
As we said above, there were many cars that made Indian debut through Auto Expo and VW Tiguan falls in the same category. The SUV was first revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year in September and will be launched in India by 2017. It’s a seven-seater premium SUV based on the new MWB platform which is also used in cars like Skoda Octavia and Audi A3.
9) Duster Facelift
Renault India also unveiled the updated Duster at the Indian Auto Expo?. Apart from cosmetic updates, the biggest change in the new Duster is the inclusion of segment-first 6 speed Easy-R AMT automatic transmission. Under the hood, the SUV will remain same.
10) Tata Hexa
Tata showcased three new production ready models and Hexa was among the other two Nexon and Zica. Hexa is a replacement of Aria SUV which also earlier displayed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The SUV is powered by VARICOR 400 2.2 litre diesel engine. T
11) Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Cherokee SRT
Jeep is a one brand which is known for its off roading capabilities across the globe. This iconic brand is now making its way to Indian roads and its first step in that direction is unveiling of its two new SUVs that will be launched this year. The automaker showcased Wrangler Unlimited and Cherokee SRT at the event show.
12) Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai Tucson is premium SUV which upon its launch will fill the huge gap between Creta and Santa Fe. The updated model features hexagonal grille along with the dual projector LED headlamps and LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), large wheel arch and 19-inch alloy wheels.
13) Chevy Colorado
Chevrolet showcased its mid-size pickup Colorado which is quite a popular in United States. However, there is no confirmation that the company will launch this particular pickup vehicles in the country. Globally, it comes with an option of three engine options- two petrol engines, a 2.5L and a 3.6L V6 and one diesel engine – a 2.8L mill.
14) Jaguar F-Pace
Jaguar’s first ever SUV was showcased at the Expo Arena in Noida. F-Pace SUV is based on the C-X17 concept car and will compete with SUVs like Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q5, BMW X5. In international markets, it is offered with a range of engines including a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel that makes 180PS. There’s a bigger 3.0-litre, V6 diesel unit which makes 300PS. There’s also the 3.0-litre, supercharged V6 petrol engine from the F-Type that comes in two states of tune – 340PS and 380PS.
15) Hyundai HND-14
Hyundai has come up with a sub-four meter SUV concept HND-14 at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The made for India concept, will sit below the highly successful Creta to compete against the likes of Mahindra TUV300 and Ford EcoSport.
