Electric vehicles is the next BIG thing that will be revolutionizing the future of the automotive industry. India has shown keen interest in the growth of electric vehicles in the country. Promotion of electric vehicles has also been on the nations government’s agenda for quite some time.


The Indian government aims on achieving 100 percent production and sales of electric vehicles by the year 2030. In accordance to this, Maharashtra government has taken a positive step and by supporting the Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, it has announced a profitable incentive scheme for Electric Vehicles.


Under the new policy, the state will offer a subsidy of 15 percent on the purchase of new Electric Vehicles. This will be applicable to the first one lakh electric vehicles to be registered in the state of Maharashtra. In addition to this, it will also offer the ongoing exemption on road tax and registration for electric vehicles.


But this policy has capping limit to the maximum subsidy which can be given to a vehicle. This means that, two wheelers can avail a maximum subsidy upto Rs 5000, three wheelers can avail maximum subsidy upto Rs 12,000 and four wheelers can avail maximum subsidy upto Rs 1 lakh. This amount will be reverted to the owner’s bank account within three months after the registration of the vehicle. The incentives for the new registered Electric vehicles will be allocated in a phased manner according to places namely-  Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Nagpur, Pune and Aurangabad.


Well, there is more who are thinking of setting up charging stations. Maharashtra government will also offer 25 percent subsidy to the first 250 charging stations which will be set up in the state. The maximum subsidy amount which can be availed is amounted upto Rs 10 Lakh. Electric Vehicle manufacturer can also open their charging stations at fuel pumps given that it meets all the safety norms. These new charging stations can avail electricity at non-commercial rates.
