The car will be pitched against the likes of Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai Grand i10, upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Tata Zica and to some extent Renault KWID. This new product will be placed below to recently launched Mahindra TUV300. We have jolt down some points on what do we know so far about this new product from the homegrown carmaker.

Yes, it would be a compact SUV and to gain the excise duty cut benefits, its size is maintained well under sub-four meter category. The car will boast high ground clearance, muscular exterior design and LED DRLs.

2) What’s in the name?

For Mahindra everything is in the name. Right from Bolero to Scorpio to Quanto to Verito to e2o, every car name ends with an alphabet ‘O’. The same is been carried in recently launched SUVs like XUV5OO, TUV3OO and now KUV1OO which also ends with an alphabet ‘O’. While the K in the name is Kompact defining the compact size.

3) New Family of Petrol Engine

Now this KUV100 is also an important product for Mahindra as with it, the company will also introduce a new family of petrol engines co-developed with its Korean subsidiary Ssangyong. The new 1.2-litre, 3 cylinder petrol engine will muster an output of around 75 to 80bhp while, for the diesel models, it would be the same 1.5-litre mHawk introduced with the TUV300. Transmission wise, there would be for sure 5-speed manual gearbox with an expectation of 5-speed AMT (Automated-Manual Transmission).

4) Front-Wheel Driven Platform and Monocoque Chassis

The car underpins all new front wheel driven platform and new monocoque chassis. The company will also bring other new products based on the same platform as it appeals to new customers. Prior to this, Mahindra was known for its rugged rear wheel driven ladder-on-frame design products.

5) Date of Launch and  Price Range

Well, it takes no genius to guess that every carmaker wants to launch their product as soon as possible, but at the same time, automakers avoid launching their new vehicles in the last two week of the year end. Rumor has it that the company will launch the KUV100 in the mid-January in the price range of Rs 4 to 4.5 lac.
