Just as we have entered the new year, Mercedes has been on a roll not only in India but across the globe. It has become the largest seller of luxury cars in the nation as well as all over the world. Now, the German Luxury car manufacturer has unveiled its first BS-VI compliant vehicle in India. The S350d from Mercedes-Benz’s stable is the first luxury car to receive the BS-VI compliant engine. This car was unveiled in the India in the presence of Mrs Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Director of ARAI and the Minister of Road Transport and Highway Mr Nitin Gadkari.

So what exactly is under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz S350d? Let’s have a look? Powering this luxury car is a BS-VI compliant  3.0 litre  V6-cylinder diesel engine which produces 258bhp of power and 63=20Nm of twist. This mill is coupled with a seven speed automatic gearbox. In all, this new power unit uses engine and exhaust treatment technologies like Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).

In addition to this, Mercedes has equipped this engine with a CAMTRONIC variable valve lift control, two stage turbocharger and also offers a stepped-bowl combustion process. With the use of these advanced technology, Mercedes has claims that the fuel consumption is decreased by six percent and the power output has considerably increased. In addition to this, the German Luxury car manufacturer has built the engine block using aluminium where as the pistons are made of steel and it also gets an improved NANOSLIDE  coating on the cylinder walls.

So what figures does the ARAI report show for the new engine?

As compared to the BS-IV engine the nitrous oxide produced from the new engine has been reduced down to 68% whereas the particulate matter has been also reduced upto 82%.

When will the S350d (BS-VI) launch?

Well, there isn't any official announcement from the German Auto manufacturer but we can expect it to be launched in the following weeks of the 2018 Auto Expo.
