Volvo finally unveils the XC40, few days after the car details and design images were leaked. As geely now owns Volvo cars, the XC40 is based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. This platform is much cheaper than the previous SPA platform, which Volvo used. With the use of the CMa platform, we can expect that it can be used in future for Volvo’s compact SUV’s.

Comparing the XC40 from the concept design, Volvo has used most of the similar designs. The Volvo XC40 looks similar in design with the XC60 and XC90. the designers of the XC40 have taken influence from the architectural and fashion designs and created this compact SUV. the XC40 gets hammer DRL’s just like its family cars. The exterior design of this compact SUV gets  both a clamshell bonnet and an upswept rear window. This design is made to target the young buyers. Ian Kettle a young British designer who designed the exterior of the car, says that he wanted to create a car which resembled like a “tough little robot”. The base variant XC40 will ride on 17inch rims and the others variants will ride on 18 inch or 19in rims. An 21 inch rim will be available as an option.

Coming to the interiors of the Volvo XC40, the compact SUV gets an 12.3in thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument display which will be available as standard in all its variants. In addition to this it will also boost a 9 inch touch screen which will be fitted on the centre of the dashboard. This infotainment system will be powered with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and it will also be  standard on all the variants. Volvo claims the XC40 as n premium SUV but this model will not get the conventional 'luxury' materials.

Looking into the safety of this compact SUV, you don't have to worry as it is going to come out of Volvos stable. The Volvo XC40 will come with Pilot Assist, 360 degree camera,  cross traffic alert with brake support and un-off road protection and mitigation.  The 360 degree camera help the car drive through tight parking spaces whereas Volvo’s pilot Assist will help to start the car without a key through an app.

The Volvo XC40 will come with two engine  options-  D4 diesel or a T5 2-litre petrol. Volvo also states that it will be adding a hybrid and a full electric variant to the XC40’s fleet. will be added to the XC40 later.

Well Volvo will be bringing the XC40 in India somewhere around the mid of 2018. Once launched in India it will be competing head on with the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1 and the upcoming Jaguar E-Pace. We expect Volvo launch the XC40 in India with a starting price of Rs 28 lakh.
