Some days ago, the official details and features of the New Honda Civic had been circulating all over the internet. After a long wait, what we will be getting is the tenth generation iteration of the Civic. Unlike last time, the new Civic has now been better designed to tackle the Indian roads and for the first time in the Indian market, it will now come available with a diesel motor.
“Now according to some reports, we get to know that Honda Cars India will be launching the Civic on the 7th of March 2019. Also, the bookings have now been kicked started and the booking amount has been set to Rs 31,000.”
Honda has built the New Civic on a brand new platform and it also gets Honda’s newest design philosophy as well. Upfront the New Civic gets Honda's signature thick chrome slat and it also comes equipped with modern LED headlight units along with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL’s). If we compare the new Civic with the previous model that was launched in India, we get to know that the ground clearance is increased to tackle those large bumps on roads and it also gets high boot lid and a sloping roofline.
Stepping in, we can see that Honda has upgraded the New Civic with a stylish cabin and it also gets some hints from the City and the CR-V. although the Civic boosts f a black and beige interior scheme it also gets aluminium highlights. In terms of modern technology and features, the D-segment sedan gets a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system and a modern layout instrument cluster.
Powering the petrol model Civic will be a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that will only be matted with a CVT automatic unit. This petrol engine is capable of churning out 140 bhp of power and174Nm of twist and it will also feature paddle shifters. Whereas the diesel model will be powered with a 1.6-litre i-DTEC unit that also powers the CR-V. The diesel motor can produce 119 bhp of power and 300Nm of twist and it will be mated with a six-speed manual gearbox only. Here the petrol motors miss out on a manual gearbox whereas the diesel model misses out on an automatic transmission.
Once launched, the New Honda Civic will lock its horns with the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and the Hyundai Elantra in the Indian market. Why is Honda not considering to get back the Brio in the Indian market?
Honda has shut down the production of the Brio in the Indian market.
There are no plans of Honda getting the new generation Brio back in the Indian market.
With this, the Amaze now becomes the entry-level car from Honda’s stable in the Indian market.
Last week, we at MyNewCar had reported that Honda has shut down the production of the Brio hatchback and has also pulled out its entry-level car from its Indian stable. Due to which, now the Amaze compact sedan becomes the new entry-level car from Honda in the Indian market.
“Although the New Generation Brio is being sold in the international market, there were some speculations whether it would be coming down to the Indian market. But as now, we get to know that Honda has no plans to launch this hatchback in the Indian market.”
There are three major reasons for it and it has been discussed below:
Poor sales numbers
Back in 2011, Honda had launched the Brio in the Indian market and initially
They saw a lot of success. But with the growing competition in the hatchback segment, the sales number were on a constant decline. In the past seven years, Honda managed to sell only 97,000 units of the Brio, wherein the Amaze, on the other hand, saw a sales number of 63,000 units in just a years time.
Focussing majorly on premium products
As of now, Honda is focussing much on its premium products for the Indian market. As the Jazz and the WR-V are doing good in their segment, Honda is trying to improve these premium segments to get a better hold in the automotive market. According to the recent trends, we get to know that the consumers in the Indian market are now ready to shell out more money and go for premium products. Hence we have seen the number of sales of entry-level products falling.
Upcoming emission norms and safety norms in India
According to the emission laws and the safety norms getting strict in the Indian market which will come into action in just a matter of months. Many auto manufacturers have to upgrade their existing products to meet these norms. This will result in an increase in prices as well, hence many manufacturers are letting off some slow-moving models. This also includes the Brio and if we want the new gen Brio to launch, the Japanese car manufacturer will have to invest heavily which it most likely won't do it.
Along with this, we will also be seeing other car models from different car manufacturers that will be shutting them down. But this will also attract heavy discounts for the models that have already been manufactured and been stocked.

Volkswagen Polo bags the first rank in the Premium Compact Segment for the 2018 Initial Quality Study.
According to the reports from JD Power, about the results of the 2018 Initial Quality Study (IQS) the Volkswagen Polo has been ranked first. The Volkswagen Polo has bagged the first rank in the Premium Compact Segment and this was the third consecutive year that it has bagged the first position.
On the other hand, the Volkswagen Ameo has been awarded the second position in the Entry Midsize segment. The responses for the J.D. Power 2018 India Initial Quality Study was based on the 7710 new vehicle owners. These are the owners who had purchased the cars between the period of December 2017 to October 2018. The study for the 2018 IQS included 75 car models from 13 different automotive brands.
So what does this study include? According to the reports, the problems faced by these new vehicle owners between the first two to six months of ownership period. In addition to this, 200 different problem symptoms in eight different categories were also studied. This included problems from the engine and transmission, driving experience, features, controls and displays, Exterior, Interior, entertainment and navigation, etc.
Steffen Knapp the Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars said that “Polo has been one of our most successful models in India that have maintained its premium-ness by witnessing more than 80 per cent first-time buyers. We are glad to be receiving a hat-trick that is expected out of this powerful carline. Along with this, our made-for-India Ameo ranks 2nd in the Entry Midsize Segment that truly delivers our continued commitment of offering value for money proposition to our customers.”
According to reports, the results were calculated on the basis of PP100 reported by the customers. So the vehicle with the lowest amount of PP100 indicates that the problems are less and the quality of the vehicle is high.
