It's finally here, India's first convertible luxury SUV. It is the Range Rover Evoque Convertible which has been launched by Jaguar Land Rover. This luxury convertible SUV is priced at Rs 69.53 lakh (Ex-showroom, India).
Let's pop up the hood and have a look at what drives this beast. Powering the Range Rover Evoque Convertible is Jaguar Land Rovers new 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine. This mill is capable of producing 240 horsepower and 340Nm of torque. Well, this engine is coupled with a nine speed automatic transfer case and all power and torque produced by the engine is transferred to all the four wheels. Yes this is the same engine which was first introduced in the Indian market in the Velar.
Speaking about performance numbers, as claimed by JLR, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 8.1 seconds. It also has a top-speed of 217 kmph.
This JLR has introduced this convertible Evoque only on for the fully-loaded HSE Dynamic variant. This variant comes equipped with features such as surround view camera, InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, a heads-up display and adaptive LED headlight unit. In addition to this, the fully loaded HSE trim gets gesture control to open and close the boot.
JLR has built the Evoque Convertible on a reinforced monocoque chassis. In addition to this JLR has also use reinforced door panels. This is done to ensure utmost rigidity for this SUV because of its drop-top. Speaking about the drop-top, it gets acoustic inner lining. This helps to reduce the road noise inside the cabin hence making it properly insulated. This fabric drop-top is operated electrically and it takes upto 20 seconds for it to be tucked in side the boot space. This drop-top can only be folded upto a speed of 48 kmph.
When the roof is down, a wind deflector helps to reduce air draft to the rear seats. This feature is optional. For utmost safety, JLR has also equipped this convertible Luxury SUV with a pop-up roll over bar along with all the safety features which are available in the top Model HSE variant. This roll-over bar will pop up if there is any danger of roll over of the car.
