The Czech car manufacturer, Skoda has launched the Rapid Onyx in the Indian market. This model of the mid size sedan has been offered with a price tag starting from Rs 9.75 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). Skoda has offered the Rapid Onyx with some cosmetic updates but mechanically it will remain unchanged.
Aesthetically, the Skoda Rapid Onyx is available in only two colour options- Lapiz Blue and Candy White. The overall design of this new model is similar to the standard Rapid but it does come with many cosmetic upgrades. On the exterior at the front, it gets gloss black grille with chrome surrounding and the headlight unit gets a projector unit with integrated LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL’s). Moving to towards the side profile, the Rapid Onyx gets blacked out ORVM’s, blacked out B-Pillar and the cars runs on 16 inch Clubber alloy wheels which are also finished in black. While at the rear, it just gets black boot lid garnish.
As we step inside the Skoda Rapid Onyx, we first notice the flat bottom, three spoke, multifunction steering wheel which gives it a sporty looks, also the interiors is light brown with beige upholstery. In addition to this, the steering wheel gets black stitches, the dashboard unit holds the same 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment unit which supports Mirrorlink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, this mid-size sedan gets a black waste bin, rear windshield sun blind, 12 V sockets both at the front and rear and scuff plates with Onyx inscription on it.
Skoda has launched the Rapid Oynx with no mechanical changes and it will be available with both the petrol and diesel motors. The petrol version gets the 1.6 litre four cylinder unit that produces 104bhp of power and 153Nm of twist. Whereas the diesel version gets the 1.5 litre unit that generates 109bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Skoda will also be offering the Rapid Oynx with both the manual and petrol transmission. Both the petrol and diesel engines will come matted with a five speed manual gearbox. Whereas the diesel engine will be matted with the 7-Speed DSG train and the petrol engine will be coupled with a 6-Speed automatic gearbox.
With the festive about to start, Skoda aims to increase the sales of the Rapid with the launch of this new model. The Skoda Rapid locks its horns with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and the Toyota Yaris in the Indian market.
