Tata Motors is planning to launch a new variant for its popular Tiago Hatchback. The details of this new variant has been recently leaked and the pictures of it have been floating all around the internet. According to the documents leaked, we get to know that this new model will be known or named as the Tiago NRG.
So basically, the Tiago NRG is a crossover-hatchback version of the standard Tiago hatchback. As of now this new model is scheduled to be launched on the 12th of september 2018 in the Indian market. With this, the Tiago NRG will be marked as the first cross-hatch car to be launched by Tata Motors.
Aesthetically, the body shell and the basic design is similar to the standard Tiago hatchback. But what makes the Tiago NRG differ from the standard model is addition of muscular and beefed up body kit. It consists of body claddings on the front and rear bumpers, also the wheel arches gets body cladding on it. In addition to the body cladding, it gets scuff plate both the front and rear bumpers. On top, Tata Motors has offered a blacked out roof which also gets roof rails. Just like the roof topo even the ORVM’s are blacked out and as we look into the side profile we notice the a new design 14 inch alloy wheel. At the rear, a black body cladding runs on the bod lid just below the rear windshield. This cladding holds the Tiago Badge on the left, Tata emblem on the centre and the NRG badge on it right.
The Tiago not only gets a rugged look, it also gets increased ride height. The standard Tiago gets 170mm ground clearance whereas the Tiago NRG will get a 180mm ground clearance. On the other hand, the Tiago NRG also look bigger and taller in comparison with the regular Tiago.
As we have a glimpse of the interiors, the first thing we can notice is the contrast trim around the Centre Console and the AC vents. The biggest update is the 5.0inch touchscreen infotainment unit and with this it will be the only Tiago variant to get it. Modern equipments included a cooled glove box, electrically adjustable ORVM’s. Tata will also offer the four speaker Harman Sound System which is also seen in the Tigor (Compact Sedan).
The Tiago NRG will not get any mechanical changes, it will be powered with the same petrol and diesel units which powers the standard Tiago. This includes the 1.2 litre petrol engine that generates 84 horsepower and the 1.0 litre diesel mill that generates 69 horsepower. According to the documents that have been leaked, we get to know that this model will only come coupled with the manual transmission. Hence the Tiago NRG will miss out on the AMT gearbox.
