Tata Motors has launched their much-awaited performance-oriented siblings – Tiago and Tigor JTP today with an introductory pricing of Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 7.49 lakh, (ex-showroom Delhi).Tata has started accepting bookings for the same with deliveries set to begin by next month.
The JTP siblings have been given a complete revision in various areas starting from under the hood; the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, which does its duty in the Nexon, now makes an even impressive 114hp and 150Nm of torque. These figures are sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox with revised ratios for optimized acceleration; which in turn reflects in the 0-100 timing of 9.95sec for the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP coming in at 10.38 sec. Tata is also offering two driving modes for the cars - Sport for performance, and City for efficiency. In contrast, the JTP cars make 29PS more power and 36Nm more torque than their standard versions. It gets even better from here; unlike the usual crop of pretentious hot-hatches in India, the JTP siblings are not just normal hatchbacks with more power. The air-scoop in the hood and the dual tip exhaust are overt signs of tweaks in the intake and exhaust department. With great power comes responsibility, the car now sits 4 mm lower with a reworked suspension setup for better ride and handling along with meatier 185/65 R15 alloy wheels on the Tigor and 185/60 R15 on the Tiago JTP. The steering has also been recalibrated for better feel and feedback.
Jayem Automotive based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu is the brains behind this delight who has surprised us in the past with some uber-cool projects and concepts like the Super Nano. In terms of exterior design, the cars look more focused and sharp with the redesigned bumpers sporting bigger air dams with smoked headlamps and grille. The interiors now receive an all-black treatment with contrast red insights. Features include touchscreen infotainment system, 8-speaker Harman sound system, steering-mounted controls, manual AC and power windows. There are some nice touches in the interior like the contrast seat covers and instrument clusters with dedicated JTP branding, steering wheel stitching, JTP floor mats and drilled pedals. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control will also be offered with the JTP siblings.
The Tiago and Tigor JTP weighs in at 1016kg and 1051kg respectively; this coupled with the figures and changes to the chassis blatantly point towards a worthy hot hatch (read as warm) which also doesn’t happen to break your bank. It’s time for enthusiasts on a budget to rejoice as this seems like the car worth breaking your savings for.
The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP is priced at Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 7.49 lakh, (ex-showroom Delhi)
