Mahindra is working on a new 2.0-litre petrol engine
Mahindra is working in a 2.0 litre petrol engine which will be launched in September 2019.
To keep the engine weight light it is being built on an aluminium block.
Recently, Mahindra had showcased their future BS-6 compliant petrol engines. In addition to this, the Indian automotive manufacturer had also announced that they will be launching them somewhere in the month of September 2019.
As of now, Mahindra is gearing up to introduce an all-new 2.0-litre petrol BS-6 compliant mill. This will help them have a stronghold and position themselves better in the market.
According to some media reports, we get to know that this 2.0-litre petrol mill will be an all aluminium block and this powerhouse will be capable of putting out 185 bhp of power.
From some sources at Mahindra, the engineers wanted to optimize this petrol unit to be as light as possible hence they didn't use the same block as the diesel unit. In addition to this, the 2.0-litre petrol unit will also be turbocharged just like the new range of 1.2 litres and 1.5-litre TGDI units.
Mahindra has recently showcased that their high tech TGDI systems use 250bar of fuel injection rail. Also, they revealed that a 350bar fuel injection system will go into production in the year 2020. As of now, it is isn’t confirmed whether this 2.0-litre engine will get the 350 bar gasoline direct injection system.
During the showcase of the future BS-6 range of engines, Mahindra’s MD Pawan Goenka said that "Mahindra was lacking a portfolio of globally competitive petrol engines in 2016. We were generally known not for our gasoline engines, but for diesel engines.
However, we got a stamp of approval when both Ford and SsangYong decided they would want to use Mahindra’s new petrol engine in their vehicles, which means that we have managed to develop an engine that’s globally competitive."
So stay tuned to MyNewCar to know more about the new range of petrol engines to be launched by Mahindra in the coming months. This will help the Indian automotive manufacturer compete strongly in the market against its rivals.

From the spy images, we get to know that the test mule spotted is in its early stages of production. But it also gives a hint of what we can expect from the third-gen i20.
Comparing with the current model, the test mule does look much wider and this will help in a spacious cabin. Due to the crucial four-meter mark, the length of the car won't be increased as this will help them qualify for the excise benefits. The booking
The cabin would most likely be inspired by the models that have recently launched, like the Venue and the upcoming Grand i10. We can also expect, Hyundai to load the next gen i20 with its Blue Link system.
Under the hood, we will most likely see the addition of a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill that powers the Hyundai Venue. But we will have to wait and watch whether Hyundai gives it the same state of tune as that of the Venue (120bhp) or a lesser state of tune which is seen on the current i20 sold overseas (100bhp). For an aggressive entry-level price tag, Hyundai may also get in the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
What we can expect from the third-gen i20 is that it will be loaded with many premium features, better cabin space along with a peppy petrol engine. With this, Hyundai is gearing up to increase the competition furthermore in the premium hatchback market. It will be competing for head-on with the upcoming Tata Altoz, Toyota Glanza, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz.
