As Maruti Suzuki launched its first sub-4 meter SUV Vitara Brezza at Rs 6.99 lac (Ex-showroom, Delhi), competition in the compact SUV segment further boils down to a higher degree. The car lock horns with urban crossover, Ford EcoSport, tuff looking Mahindra TUV300 and stylish Hyundai Creta. So why to waste time, let’s check out how the new kid from Maruti stands against its rivals.


In terms of dimensions, Creta is longest of all at 4270mm; but then too, its not a sub-4 meter vehicle, like the rest three. While the TUV300 and the Brezza share identical figures of 3,995mm, EcoSport is slightly longer at 3,999mm. The widest of the four is the TUV300 at 1,835mm while the EcoSport is the narrowest at 1,765mm. The Brezza has a width of 1,790mm. The TUV300 is the tallest of the lot at 1,839mm followed by the EcoSport at 1,708mm, the Brezza at 1,640mm and Hyundai Creta at 1,630mm .

The TUV300 leads again in terms of wheelbase with a length of 2,680mm. The Hyundai Creta at 2,590mm comes in second, EcoSport at 2,520mm comes in third, with the Vitara Brezza trailing its rivals with a wheelbase of 2,500mm. The TUV300 is also the only SUV in this comparison to get jump seats in the boot.

However, it is the EcoSport that sits highest off the ground at 200mm followed by the Brezza at 198mm, Hyundai Creta at 190mm and lastly the TUV300 at 184mm.


If small is the new big, Maruti Suzuki with Vitara Brezza leads the battle, but sadly that’s not how things work under the hood. But frankly speaking, its not that bad either. Figures speak for themselves. Vitara Brezza gives an output of 90 PS (88.8bhp) and is only out powered by Ford EcoSport with 98.6bhp. Here, we would like to make it clear that for the fair comparison , we have only taken the 90PS, 1.4-litre CRDi Hyundai Creta inconsideration and not the bigger 1.6-litre CRDi model. Least powered in the comparison is the Mahindra’s beefy looking TUV300.

Features On-Board

The top spec model of Vitara Brezza comes well-equipped with features like Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system, climate control, cooled glovebox, cruise control, automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers to name a few. The compact SUV will also come with driver airbag as standard with the lower models getting the option of dual airbags and ABS.

The top-spec Ford too gets a long feature list that includes dual front, side and curtain airbags, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers and Ford’s SYNC infotainment system. However, the base variant misses out on airbags and ABS.

The top-spec TUV300 gets follow-me-home headlamps, dual airbags and ABS and Micro Hybrid technology, voice messaging system, an infotainment system with Mahindra Blue Sense app connectivity. Like the EcoSport, the base TUV also misses out on the airbags though it is available as an add-on option along with ABS.

Creta too comes equipped with all the bells and whistles. The 1.4-litre model offers Base, S and S+ variants. The S+ variant offers driver and passenger airbag while the ABS and EBD comes as standard feature right from Base variant. S+ variant also offers rear parking sensors, follow me headlamps but no keyless entry and push button start for that matter.


In pricing, Maruti Suzuki has managed to undercut its competitors by a huge margin. The base variant of Vitara Brezza is priced at Rs 6.99 lac while that of Ford EcoSport (Diesel) is Rs 8.19 lac, TUV300 at Rs 7.26 lac and Hyundai Creta (1.4 CRDi)at Rs 9.74 lac.
