Mahindra has geared up to compete in the premium SUV range in the Indian market with the launch of the Alturas. Although in the International market this model is sold as the Rexton, but here in India its comes with the badging of Mahindra trying. Hence it is being localised and keeping cost in control. Basically, the Alturas G4 from Mahindra is rebadged version of the second generation Rexton from Ssangyong. This second generation Rexton had made its first debut in the year 2017 in the international market. If we compare the Alturas with the second Generation Rexton, it shares many styling features and technology but also gets some hints of Mahindra in it. With the launch of the Alturas G4, it now the most expensive SUV to be available in from Mahindra stables in India.
Mahindra Alturas diesel models/variants
Mahindra has launched the Alturas G4 only with a single diesel engine for both the base and top variant. It doesn't get any other engine option, also it gets a seven-speed torque converter for both the trim levels. But it does come in a 4X2 unit which is available on the base variant and whereas the top trim level gets a 4X4 unit. Below mentioned are the two variants/models of the Alturas G4.

The Alturas G4 is only powered with a diesel engine and it gives out a mileage of 10 km per litre to 12 km per litre of diesel. As of now, the official mileage figures haven't been released from the manufacturer.

Mahindra has equipped the Alturas G4 with four cameras which gives a 360 view of the SUV on the infotainment unit. This feature helps the users in parking the car in tight corners and it also ensures a smooth drive.
The Alturas gets a 20.32cm touchscreen infotainment unit which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The steering wheel gets audio controls on it, which helps you navigate smoothly through your music. Also, the instrument cluster can be handled through the controls on the steering and it also helps in setting the cruise control.

Mahindra Alturas performance
The Alturas G4 sprints from 0-100kmph in 11.06 seconds, which in comparisons with the Fortuner is slow by two seconds. But if we compare it with the Ford Endeavour the Alturas G4 is quicker by half of the seconds despite being powered with a 2.2-litre engine. The seven-speed torque converter is very quick and it also downshifts very smooth;y which helps in overtaking.

Powering the Alturas G4 is a 2.2 litre diesel mill from Mahindra. As of now, Mahindra hasn't brought in a petrol engine variant. Even though this 2198cc diesel mill is small in a capacity pot in comparisons with it rivals, but it churns out a whopping 178bhp of power and 420Nm of twist.

Mahindra has coupled its diesel engine with a seven speed automatic transmission. This automatic transmission is sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The lower base variant comes with a front wheel drive set up whereas the top variant gets four wheel drive setup.

Mahindra has offered this premium SUV with the macho exterior design, also the fit and finish on the interior are top notch and it gets a premium touch to it. In addition to this, the cabin is roomy and is very spacious. Mahindra powers this SUV with a powerful diesel mill and a smooth automatic transmission.
The seating space in the third row gets uncomfortable and the ride quality of the Alturas is also bumpy.

Mahindra Alturas exterior
Aesthetically, at the front, the grille has been tweaked with a touch of Mahindra’s signature design and towards its end are the pair of stylish headlamp units. The overall design of the Alturas is very macho and it also has a bit of the Land Cruiser appearance. Coming to the side profile, it gets squared wheel arches which go along with the overall macho design.
This SUV runs on large 18-inch alloy wheels. As the Alturas is completely based on the second gen Rexton it carries over the huge dimensions. On top, it gets roof rails and a sunroof and to give it a sporty look it also gets a spoiler. At the rear, Mahindra has offered this SUV with stylish tail lamps and muscular tailgate. The bumper is neatly designed and it doesn't look much over thanks to the blacked out lower end.

Stepping in the Alturas you will be taken aback with the luxurious features and elements that Mahindra has to offer. Upfront, the dash gets a modern design with many premium fits and finish materials. It gets a dual tone finish with a wooden finish which gives a boost to the premium finish of the SUV. Also, the dash hosts the eight-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Mahindra has offered the cabin with quilted leather upholstery giving it a much premium finish and look.
For utmost comfort, the drivers can be adjusted in eight ways and it also gets memory functions along with it. In addition to this, the Alturas also get dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats and cruise control for a smooth drive. As the headliner is scooped up it offers better headroom and due to the huge dimensions, the cabin also feels roomy. Although the boot space is quite big with the third row folded down, the third feels a bit crampy for adults.
