Mahindra XUV 300 Review: Things You Need to Know About It
A lot of us love the bigger stronger look in our cars but most of the times the SUV that comes with it also comes with additional passenger space which sometimes is not required if its a personal car or you need to get off traffic fast. Knowing that, a lot of companies created a model that looks like an SUV, has all its features and strength but is packed in a much smaller hood. With just seating for 5 people, the new compact SUVs are getting more and more popular amongst the crowd.
We all know XUV500 from Mahindra and we all loved it. The 7 –8 seater car really did well in the market and that is why Mahindra decided to introduce a car with a similar but smaller frame and better features. Priced between 7.99 lakhs and 11.99 lakhs, this premium SUV (xuv300) comes in 2 fuel options.
So how does it look like?
Mahindra XUV 300 Exteriors
The XUV300 has the same design that of XUV500. The cheetah-inspired XUV300 has a squared off bonnet and has Mahindra's chrome-finished grille and finished with LED daytime running light. The xuv300 that was previously introduced as S201 is based on SsangYong Tivoli.
The xuv300 has the same flared wheel arches that of Tivoli but it gets new tail lights inspired by European design. The wheels of xuv300 are at 17inch with a wheelbase of 2600mm. The pointed hood, unique and sharp daytime running lights with the signature Mahindra grille gives the car a classic look. One more thing to notice here is the swirly design o wheels that come with this car, making the car stand out amongst others. To put it in simple words, xuv300 is taller and wider than tata Nexon.
Mahindra XUV 300 Interiors
Xuv300 offers a dual tone interior with a glossy finish that suits everybody’s taste. The combination of whitish grey (almost silver) and black gives the car a luxurious look. The positioning of the infotainment system and controls are not too shabby either. But the lack of easy touch operation for climate control and other switches gives a reason to frown at. The highlight in the interior would be the upright, high seating position that gives a better view of the road.
The car is spacious and so is the seating arrangement. This is Higher seating positions something Mahindra is really known for and did not fail to deliver with its new launch. However, with enough knee room, and maybe the higher seating fails to provide enough legroom, especially at the back. Mahindra did not skimp on any storage spaces. The xuv300 provide enough storage for all your necessary accessories from bottles to even laptops.
Even though the xv300 is based on SsangYong Tivoli, it falls a little short when it comes to its boot space. The boot space of xuv300 is 200mm less that of Tivoli. The boot space of xuv300 is about 260 litres. If compared, the boot space is equal to that of any small hatchback. The car comes with a 600;40 split at the back but it still does not make up for the already smaller boot space this car is offering.
The car comes in 4 variants and two fuel options. The petrol and diesel variants are W4, W6, W8 and W8 OPT.

Mahindra XUV 300 Features
The 5 seater SUV will have an integrated touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin has a dual-tone high-gloss black and aluminium silver elements all over. Standard safety features will include disc brakes on all four wheels, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and dual airbags. The new Mahindra xuv300 has all the usual features along with some segment first features.
The featured front also includes Cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, engine start button and keyless entry, auto-headlamps which use halogen projectors for the low beam. There is also Engine Stop-Start feature which reduces emission.
The top-spec variant of XUV300 highlights is 7 side and front airbags, a sunroof, dual-zone Auto AC and front parking sensors.
The top spec w8(o) variant, however, comes with 7 airbags, dual zone climate control with memory function, front parking sensors, heated mirrors, and disc brakes for all four wheels. Other noteworthy features include a sunroof, cruise control, push button start, leather seats, hill hold function and a 7-inch infotainment system with smartphone mirroring tech and navigation. Even though it comes loaded with features, the xuv300 still misses out on some fronts. To put it frankly, the infotainment system is at most average compared to what the competition is offering.
Mahindra XUV 300 Engine
The xuv300 has a 1.2litre turbocharge petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. The 1.2-litre petrol engine gives an output of 110ps power and 200nm of torque. The diesel engine is similar to that of marazzo that produces 121bhp power and 300Nm of torque. Since the diesel engine offers such high torque at just 1500 rpm, the car has a fast pickup and is best to drive in low speed as well as on faster routes. The four cylinder 1.2litre petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel engine will only be available in 6 speed manual transmission as of now.
Mahindra did a great job with sound insulation of this car. Its diesel engine is one of the most silent in its range, there is practically no sound from the engine for your daily commutes. One more attribute of Mahindra that reflects in its new launch is the well thought out suspension that gives light (if any) bumps even on bigger potholes. The 6 speed automatic comes with Normal, Comfort and Sports modes.
