New Maruti Suzuki WagonR Review: Now Is The Time For You To Know The Truth

Maruti Suzuki entered the Indian market in 1983. Currently owning the highest shares, The Japanese carmaker Suzuki, started production of Wagon r that first came to the Indian market in 1993. Wagon R was introduced as a kei car which in Japanese features smallest highway-legal passenger cars.

The kei car category was first introduced by the Japanese government in 1949 which explains the unique design of wagon r. The parameters of kei cars have changed a lot since then but the idea remains the same.  The kei category also consists of microvans and kei trucks.

The older version of wagon r dominated the Indian market since its launch In 1999. Since then it has taken over the automobile industry with its 2 generations being sold over 2.2 million units. Combining the best of a minivan (space, length, look) and hatchback (compact for city commute) the car became even more popular as the modern family car. Not to mention, for the same reasons it also became the most popular car in the public transportation department as a taxi.

Starting the year with the launch of the 3rd generation of Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki remembered to address the issues with the older version of the car

So what is the difference between the older version and the 2019 version?

Inspired by Ignis, the new wagon R that is built on a heartec platform which is wider, taller and longer than most cars. Addition to this, Maruti also managed to include 40% high strength steel making the new wagon r around 65kg lighter. The new car is more rigid and stronger than its predecessors making it more acceptable by the safety point of view.

The new wagon r comes in 3 variants, L, V, Z and is priced between Rs. 4.29 lakhs- Rs.5.79 lakhs.

New Maruti Suzuki WagonR Exterior

The new wagon r again features the kei category but now it’s taller, the wider frame also sports a wider modern grille and tall headlamps. The tall headlamps also come with a dual split giving the car a more modern look. Bold front fog lamps and electrically retractable orvms also does justice to the new styling of this car. It also features a lot of new creases and curves giving a more curvier look to its otherwise boxy design. The new wagon r comes with bigger tail lamps which justify the sculpted rear design.

New Maruti Suzuki WagonR Interior

The first thing that can be noticed about the new model is its abundance of space inside. Wagon r is a family car and it can get a really crowded cause of the luggage. Recognising this issue, this car gets A 341 litres of boot space.

Such massive boot space is too much for any 5 seater hatchback and can accommodate a lot of luggage because of its well thought out and designed boot space. For added space and convenience, the new wagon r comes with a 60:40 split at the rear.

Since there is no shortage of space, the new wagon r has wide and comfortable seating with enough shoulder and knee space. The new modern cabin features a 7-inch infotainment system, steering mounted controls, electric ORVM controls. A new Zxi variant comes packed with a lot of features.

The new wagon r also comes with large door pockets, storage in front of the gear lever and a decently sized glove box. The only thing that seems absent in the new version is the twin glove boxes and cup holder in front of the AC vent which is a huge disappointment.

New Maruti Suzuki WagonR Engine and Variants

The new wagon r offers an automatic gear shift version that automatically changes gear ratios. The new generation is not offering a CNG version as of now but is expected to be launched soon.

One more area where the wagon r improved a lot is its suspension. This is a huge step up from the older version and also a great feature compared to other cars in its class. The suspension is stronger even on every surface on all speeds.  The petrol MT and AGS offer a mileage of 21.5kmpl.
