Finally the day has arrived, Maruti-Suzuki launches the much awaited 2018 Swift at the ongoing Auto Expo which is being held in the nation’s capital. Maruti has launched the new Swift with a starting price Rs 4.99 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The Indian car manufacturer had started the official booking a month ago and it has seen an overwhel, img response from its customers.

As in our previous articles we have mentioned that the 2018 Swift is based on the HEARTECT platform which also  underpins the new Dzire and the Baleno. Aesthetically, the front fascia has a whole new look, thanks to the new design front bumper, single frame grill and new design LED projector headlight unit which are auto headlamps with lead me/follow me functions. The rear also gets new design bumper, all new LED tail light and a sportier spoiler which is mounted on the floating-style roof. Speaking about the paint scheme, Maruti is offering the new Swift in six shades:  solid fire red, pearl arctic white, metallic silky silver, magma grey, midnight blue and prime lucent orange.

Well, talking about interiors, it now feels premium than the predecessor models. It also gets features such as automatic climate control, start-stop button with a smart key, SmartPlay infotainment system with navigation and voice command and electrically retractable ORVMs. The new Swift is much safer than its previous version as it now gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, engine immobiliser, driver side seat belt reminder as standard. In addition to this it also is now pedestrian protection compliant.

Let's pop the hood and have look what's in, shall we? The new Swift is continued to be powered with the same engines and there aren't many mechanical changes. The 1.2 litre petrol engine produces 83bhp of power and 113Nm of torque while the 1.3 litre diesel engine produces 75bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Both the petrol and diesel mills gets the five speed manual gearbox as standard. But when we said there aren't “MANY MECHANICAL” changes, here's what we were indicating for, the New Swift now gets the AMT transmission as optional for the Vxi, Vdi, Zxi, Zdi trims.
