Nissan is gearing up to launch a Compact SUV in the Indian market known as “Kicks”. The test mules of the Kicks have been spotted conducting test runs. Although this will be the first time Nissan will be launching the Kicks in India, it has been already on sale from quite some time in some markets with the Left Hand Drive configuration.
By looking at the spy images, we come to know that the overall design of the test mule spotted is similar to the one which is sold in the international market. But the Indian Spec model of the Kicks will be based on the B0 platform(A version with stretched wheelbase) which underpins the Renault Duster and the Captur. To give this compact SUV a floating roof effect, Nissan has backed out the A, B and C pillars. In addition to this, the India spec Kicks will get Nissan's newest design philosophy along with the V Motion grille at the front.
According to the latest spy shots which have been floating on the internet, we get a good glimpse of its interiors. Inside, we get to know that the dashboard units holds a seven inch floating type touchscreen infotainment unit which is similar to the Brazilian Spec model. Also instead of an integrated unit which is seen in the international model, the Indian Spec model gets a centre console unit. In addition to this, there is also a three spoke multifunction steering wheel which also gets some silver inserts on it. As of now other features are still unknown, but we expect Nissan to equip this compact SUV with modern features and technology.
It is expected that Nissan may power the Kicks with a 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine. This mill can generate 110bhp of power and 245Nm of twist and it will be matted with six speed manual transmission. On the other hand, Nissan will also provide a 1.5 litre petrol mill that will be coupled to a five speed manual transmission. This engine will be able to produce 105 bhp of power and 142Nm of twist. Nissan could also get the CVT transmission for the petrol engine which is also available on the Renault Duster
We expect that the Kicks will be priced around the 10 lakh range. Nissan will be launching this compact SUV somewhere around the first half of 2019. Once launched it will compete head on with the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Tata Harrier. Stay tuned to MyNewCar to know more about the Nissan Kicks.
