Hyundai India will be launching the AH2 which will be their cheapest hatchback in India, replacing the Hyundai eon. The car will have a starting price of over 4 lakhs. The car will be powered by a 1.1-litre petrol engine which is based on the old I10’s mill. The chassis will also be based on the i10. The AH2 will be the first Hyundai model to use an AMT transmission. Expect the launch by the end of October,2018.
The launch of the new Wagon R will happen by November. The car will be a heavily updated version of the existing model. It is also expected to be powered by the same 1.0-litre petrol engine with an AMT and a manual transmission. The engine makes 67 hp and 90 N of torque. Expect the pricing to be competitive and similar to the outgoing model.
The Performance oriented version of Tata’s small hatchback was spotted multiple times under extensive testing. Tata Motors along with Jayem Automotive is developing the car which is aiming to induce some well needed fun quotient into the segment. Power comes from a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 110 PS and 150 Nm. The chassis and suspension are also being retuned for better dynamics. Expect the launch of the car anytime in the coming months. The car will take its fight up to the Figo S, Baleno RS, and the Polo GT TSI.
Volkswagen India will update the Polo in the coming months to make it more desirable in the market amongst the competition which includes the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20, Ford Figo and the likes. The Polo has been around for more than eight years now since its introduction in 2009. The updated Polo will use the existing engine and transmission lineup, the changes will be limited to cosmetics.
The second-half of 2019 will also be witnessing the launch of the New i10 hatchback from Hyundai. Testing of the car is already under way in South Korea. The car will most probably be also powered by the existing engines with minor updates. An AMT transmission will be offered by Hyundai along with the manual transmission.
The Datsun Go will be receiving a facelift in the coming months which will bring in an updated front-end with a new bumper, headlamps, LED DRLs, and a bolder grille. The updated Go will also receive minor interior changes like a redesigned dashboard and instrument cluster. Driver airbag, speed limit reminder and rear parking sensors will be available as standard features.
The Baleno will also receive a minor facelift by the first half of 2019. The 1.3-litre fiat sourced diesel engine will be replaced by a new 1.5-litre diesel engine which is under development. There will also be some minor cosmetic changes to the car. There won’t be any subsequent changes to the pricing of the car.
Ford is planning to refresh the Figo by the festive season. The Figo, although being a very capable product from ford hasn’t been successful with the sales numbers. The Figo facelift will share styling bits from the recently introduced Freestyle, it will come with the new SYNC3 unit that will have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The most important update will be the use of the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Dragon motor from the Freestyle.
The 45X is Tata’s answer to the elite i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The 45X will be a premium offering from Tata which will be sharing the1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel powerplants with the Nexon. Expect the launch within a year with prices starting from 6 lakhs.
Tata Tigor EV
The electric variant of the Tigor was showcased at the Indian Auto Expo of 2018. The car will be fully electric with a 30-kW electric motor and a 216 Ah battery. Tata claims a range of 130 km in one full charge with top speed up to 100km/h. Fast charging will also be available with the car. Mahindra and various other manufactures are also planning to get into the electric bandwagon with various products like the upcoming eKUV100 and the Hyundai Kona.
