Kia Sonet Global Premiere - First Review

All New Kia Sonet Detailed Review - All You Need to Know
Kia has finally revealed the Sonet compact SUV and it has been a wait ever since we saw the concept making its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Sonet is to be positioned below the Seltos and would be the most affordable car from Kia Motors plus it would rival other compact SUVs. Here is a detailed Kia Sonet review.
Kia Sonet Exterior Review
The Kia Sonet is has a length of under 4m and that translates to be classified as a compact SUV. It is shorter than the Seltos but makes up with its own look. What is a good thing is that the Sonet looks barely changed from the Auto Expo concept. A lot of the design has been carried over and it does not look changed. You can see the look of the Sonet being aggressive and it actually looks bigger than other compact SUVs at first glance.
We like the front angle of the car the most which has a three dimensional effect with of course the Tiger nose detailing being there. The Seltos gets crown jewel LED headlamps along with LED DRLs with side indicators in them. There are also big wheels with a nice design on them. You will also see the front skid plates and the rear there is a diffuser fin rear skid plate and a dual muffler design. Another interesting detail is the tail-lamps being joined together with a reflector garnish. The build quality is excellent and so is the paint finish.
Kia Sonet Interior Review
The Sonet is smaller than the Seltos and the cabin feels like it. However there is barely any difference over the quality or design. The same massive 10.25inch touchscreen is there and the same sporty steering wheel. You do get new digital dials and a different air vent design.
There are two versions with the GT line having an all black look. Quality is very good especially the steering controls and even the lower- half of the Sonet looks decent. It does not have the soft touch feel but it is still quite good. Onto space and the Sonet is a compact SUV hence the rear seat can just about seat three passengers though it would a bit uncomfortable for the middle one. In terms of legroom or headroom, it is comparable to the Venue but a Vitara Brezza has more space. We found the boot to be big though.
Kia Sonet Features Review
The big change is the features list as the Sonet can claim to be the most feature loaded car in its class. You have the large 10.25 inch touch-screen plus along with that you get the UVO connected technology with 57 features like remote start for both manual/automatic and more, wireless charging, air purifier with virus protection, front and passenger ventilated seats, LED sound mood lamps, Bose music system, over the air updates for the map, multi drive traction modes and grip control, six airbags, ESC, tyre pressure monitor, auto headlamps, front and rear parking sensors plus camera view.
Kia Sonet Engine & Transmission
Similar to its sibling - Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet will get 2 petrol engine options with either Manual or Automatic transmission (iMT clutchless transmission or a DCT) while the diesel engine will get a Manual or a torque converter Automatic
The entry level petrol engine is the 1.2l petrol with a 5-speed manual transmission. Higher up is the 1.0 petrol which is a turbo 3-cylinder and will get an iMT gearbox or a 7-speed DCT automatic too. There is also a 1.5l diesel with a 6-speed torque converter automatic along with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Kia Sonet Variants and Price
Kia Sonet will be available in Tech line and GT line like its big brother, Kia Seltos. There would be a long list of variants and options but in terms of pricing we do expect the Sonet to be more expensive over the Venue albeit slightly. So we expect the price to start from Rs 6.99 lakh and maybe go till Rs 12.5/13 lakh for the top-end diesel automatic. The Kia Sonet seems impressive and will again sell in big numbers just like the Seltos. Looks like to be one of the best compact SUVs but we will reserve judgement until we drive it.
Kia Sonet Launch
Kia plans to launch the Sonet during the time when consumer sentiment is at the highest which is mainly during the festivals that happen during the end of the year. So around the starting of October or earlier at the end of September is when Kia will launch the Sonet in India.
