Top Auto Newsmakers - Latest News & Launches Recap
This week has seen various important events that took place with the likes of Hyundai, Kia and Maruti dominating the headlines. Here is a recap of the top news that dominated our headlines this week.
Latest Auto News
1. Kia Sonet teaser
Kia revealed the teaser of its upcoming Sonet compact SUV which would see its debut on 7th August. This is the first official glimpse of the production spec Sonet while we also talked about its features including its touchscreen.
2. Maruti S-Cross petrol bookings
Maruti officially opened bookings for its S-Cross petrol this week and we expect the launch to happen soon. The engine would be a 1.5l petrol with Smart Hybrid set-up.
3. Maruti Ignis features update
Maruti has added more features to the Ignis range now. The Ignis Zeta gets a touchscreen with the latest Maruti SmartPlay Studio infotainment system installed with it. There is now also a rear-view camera, things which were on the higher Alpha variant. It is priced at Rs 5.9 lakh starting for the petrol manual.
4. Maruti Nexa completes 5 years
The Nexa sales channel completes 5 years in India and currently has over 1.1 million customers in India. With more than 370 showrooms in over 200 cities, Nexa is the third largest retail brand in the automotive space.
5. Tata Altroz features update
Tata has silently added a new feature to the Altroz family. The XT variant now gets a climate control feature. This feature was only available in the top-end trims until now. There is no change in the prices of the Altroz so it has more value now if you plan to get the mid-spec trim.
6. Toyota to bring back Land Cruiser SUV to India Next Year
All New 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser based on body-on-frame version of the TNGA platform will make its global debut next year. It is also expected to be launched around the festival season next year
7. Spare wheel not compulsory for passenger vehicles with TPMS & tyre repair kit from April 2021
The Indian Goverment has amended the Central Motor Vehicle Rules allowing the spare wheel to be replaced with tyre repair kit for passenger vehicle upto of 3.5 Tonnes and equipped with tyre pressure monitoring system (TMPS). This regulation is aligned with the norms in Europe, USA and Japan related to use of extended mobility system like tyre repair kit instead of spare wheel to save weight and space.

1. Hyundai Venue iMT & Venue Sport trim
Hyundai launched the iMT transmission equipped Venue this week and it is the main launch. The Venue now gets its third type of gearbox and this iMT(Semi-Automatic) would be with the 1.0 turbo. Hyundai also launched the Venue Sport trim which gets styling changes and additional sporty treatment.
