Car Sales OC 2019: Manhindra Records Sales Decline of 23 Percent

The automotive industry has been going through one of the worst slowdowns. This has hit the sales of many automakers. This year, major festivals fell in the month of October, but still the growth in this festive period was not much significant. While some carmakers were able to arrest the slide, some were not. Mahindra, India’s third largest car manufacturer and India’s largest SUV maker was also hit with a decline in sales.

For the month of October 2019, Mahindra recorded a 23 percent year-on-year (Y-O-Y) decline in sales, which stood at 18,460 units as compared to 24,066 for the same month a year ago.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM MAHINDRA
Commenting on the October sales, Veejay Ram Nakra, chief of sales and marketing, automotive division, M&M said, “The festive month of October 2019 was excellent for Mahindra, with retail volume exceeding wholesale by approximately 40 percent. The robust retail performance was contributed by both passenger and commercial vehicles. Further, our billing numbers are in line with what we had planned for the month, since the objective was to significantly correct our channel inventory. We hope to see the positive consumer sentiment continue growing forward.”
