Hyundai becomes #1 UV Car

With the ongoing pandemic taking its control in India, the car sales have gone down drastically. But even at such times, the popularity of SUVs have been constant. With SUVs like Creta, Tucson, Kona Electric and Venue, Hyundai has become number one utility manufacturer in India for March 2020.
The crowd favorites, Creta and venue have sold most of the models making them mostly responsible for the success of Hyundai. Hyundai manages to sell only 26,300 units for March 2020 which includes a total sale of 6,706 of Creta alone. With venues selling over 6127 units, Hyundai managed to owe almost half its sales to these two SUVs. Hyundai did face a loss of -40.70% compared to March 2019. But considering the current scenario, Hyundai is at a good place with such numbers. All other carmakers have registered YoY loss for March 2020.
The second-gen Creta that was rolled out recently has proven true to its previous popularity. In the charts, Creta is ranked 6th beating Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500 and others. The venue has been in the spotlight as well, with its best-in-class features as well as internet connected smart features has gained the car the right to be at the top, ranking 7th best selling car for March 2020.
Here are the sales of some of the most popular utility vehicles for March 2020:
On the 2nd place comes the Maruti-Suzuki that owns most of the market share in Indian car sales market. Maruti was only able of sold a total of 76,240 units for March 2020 with a YoY loss of 47.43%. This is one of only few times where Maruti sales have dropped below 1 lakh units.
The new company Kia and subsidiary of Hyundai managed to sell 7,466 units of Seltos alone with carnival just having 1,117 sales. Beating Creta, Seltos is the top selling SUV in India ranking 5th on monthly sales.
After the discontinuation of Safari Storme, Hexa as well as Sumo, Tata still holds the 4th spot in this list. With giving more attention to smaller SUVs, we are hoping to see more HBX based compact SUVs in coming days.
Mahindra’s total sales were 3383 units out of which 3079 are that of the utility vehicles. Mahindra just like every other brand has recorded a huge drop in sales with YoY loss of a staggering -87.76%.
The ongoing month is expected to be worse in terms of car sales. With the ongoing pandemic spreading in India and having a huge effect internationally, the carmakers are expected to face huge losses for almost a year. With the extension of lockdown, the car sales are going to get affected causing the worst negative impacts the Indian automobile market has ever seen.
