Hyundai Motors Plan for Electrification in 2021

Back in 2019, Hyundai became the first automotive company in the Indian market to debut a full electric SUV- The Kona Electric. Coming up in 2021, the Korean Automaker will be debuting a new and flexible range of electric vehicles into its portfolio worldwide. What we will be expecting in this EV portfolio will be the road going version of the 45 EV concept model and the production specific model of the Prophecy concept. Both of these upcoming electric vehicles will be underpinned on a new platform. In addition to this, there will be another EV which will be first debuted as a concept in the coming year.
Futuristic plans of the Hyundai Motors Group
With this, we can clearly observe that Hyundai Motor Group has been consistently exploring and working on new technologies. It has also be seen joining hands with many companies that will help them expand in their electrification strategy world wide. In 2019, Kia Motors has announced their aggressive Plan S strategy which is completely based on eco friendly vehicles. First of these vehicles will be a range of new EV' s that is being planned to be launched in the coming year. On the other hand, Kia Motors parental brand - The Hyundai Motors Group is said to be prepping up more radical electric vehicles that will be having completely different designs.
Design and Aesthetics
Having a look at the 45 EV concept, it will be having a retro stance design. This design was showcased last year which takes inspiration from the 1930's streamliners. Whereas the Prophecy Concept will have a more premium and stylish sedan aesthetics. The design seems to be finalized and it will act as a major competitor to the Tesla Model 3. Hyundai expects to add on more design details across the various body types and it also wants to add in the ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ philosophy as well.
What about the third EV?
As of now, the third electric vehicle is in question. Most likely this EV will be first showcased as a concept and it is expected to be debuted sometime around 2021 itself. With this, the third EV will demonstrate the flexibility of the new E-GMP platform.
Know more about the E-GMP Platform
The E-GMP stands for Electric Global Modular Platform and this offers Hyundai with a longer wheelbase and also a flat floor design. Hyundai is experimenting around the use of peculiar USP's and the ability to adapt different body styles on this platform. The third EV which will be based on this similar platform is reported to be offering more space.
With this, by 2021 we are expecting Hyundai Motors Group to expand their electric vehicle stable worldwide. The Korean Automotive Giant also is aiming to launch around 16 new electric vehicles by the mid of this decade across the globe. For the Indian market, Hyundai Motors is working on an affordable Electric Vehicle which will cater the mass market and the launch is expected to happen by 2022.
