Kia Carnival Launching Soon : Engine, Trims and Seating Options

2.2 diesel, automatic gearbox and multiple seating options
Kia Motors second car for India is a multi utility vehicle or what it likes to call a mini RV (Recreational Vehicle)- Carnival. While the teasers have been going around for some time, the success of its first India model - Seltos - would have emboldened the Korean marque (currently the world's eighth largest automaker) as it is ready to launch the Carnival at the upcoming Auto Expo in Delhi this February. Unlike the Seltos, which was made for India, Carnival is an existing global model and will be taking on the segment's long time ruler Toyota Innova.
Bigger than an Innova, Kia says Carnival will be premium, comfortable and very car like to drive. At the heart is a Diesel 2.2L VGT BS6-compliant engine. It will come with an automatic gearbox only.
The Carnival will be available in three trims – Premium, Prestige and Limousine and with seating configurations of 7, 8 and 9. There are two 7 seater options, the regular has 4 captain seats with a 3-seater pop-up bench and another 7 VIP which gets bigger VIP seats in the second row. The 8 seater has 4 captain seats and a bench at the end. There is also a 9-seat option which has 6 Captain seats apart from a bench. Carnival will come with premium car like features such as Dual Panel Electric Sunroof, individual 10.1” Dual Touchscreen Rear Seat Entertainment System for the VIP seats and One-Touch Power Sliding Door and Smart Power Tailgate among others.
The VIP seats in the Limousine trim can be set for individual preferences. The 10.1” Dual Touchscreen Rear Seat entertainment system in this comes with an 8-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system. The Power Tailgate can automatically open when the smart key is ‘sensed’ in close proximity to the trunk. It also comes with a Smart Pure Air purifier in the top trim.
Design
The Carnival has a wide face thanks to its characteristic upright ‘tiger-nose’ grille and wrap-around LED Projection headlamps with LED DRLs. In profile, it has a swept-back silhouette with a long bonnet and an all-round glass area with Floating Roof design. Large 18-inch wheels look appropriate for this size. A crease that runs along the length of the car and sculpted surfaces reduce monotony. At the rear it gets wide LED rear lamps, broad metal surfaces and a glass area shaped to give it sizeable haunch. The roominess should be aided by the Dual Panel Electric sunroof.
Connected car
UVO, the connected car system seen in the Seltos also makes its appearance in the Carnival. The latest iteration gets 37 smart features which will be offered free for the initial 3 years of Carnival ownership. Interestingly, the UVO features can now be accessed through a smart watch as well. The smart watch allows remote engine start stop, AC Control, Smart Pure Air control, horn/ light, door lock/ unlock and vehicle status. It also provides Tyre pressure and fuel level status among others.
Engine and Gearbox
Unlike the Seltos, there is only one engine and gearbox combo on offer. A 2199cc four-cylinder common rail direct injection VGT diesel BS6 compliant engine promises efficiency with performance. Developing 200 ps at 3,800 rpm and 440Nm of torque between 1500~2750 rpm, the engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Feature list
Features like Tri zone Auto AC, Electronic Parking Brake, Auto Defog windscreen, Smart Cruise Control, front and Rear parking sensors, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and numerous storage spaces throughout the cabin should make it convenient for long distance journeys.
