When it comes to buying a new car, sedans are the least preferred option. They are surely a dying breed. But some manufacturers have showcased some exciting sedans to revive this dwindling segment. From the facelifted Superb to the Mercedes A Class Limousine, we saw some great reveals at the recently concluded Auto Expo. Let us have a look one by one.
It had been a long time since the Skoda Rapid received a major facelift. It was being offered with the same engine for nearly 9 years. But the BS VI deadline has been a blessing in disguise for this popular sedan as it now gets a more powerful BS VI compliant 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine, that will replace the current 1.6 litre petrol engine that produces 105 hp. The sedan will be offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The Skoda Rapid rivals the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

SKODA SUPERB FACELIFT
The Skoda facelift was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. It now gets a more powerful BS VI engine i.e., a 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine that produces 190 bhp. The sedan rivals the Honda Acord, Volkswagen Passat and Toyota Camry.

MERCEDES BENZ A CLASS LIMOUSINE
Replacing the CLA sedan will be the new A Class Limousine. Mercedes displayed the top end variant AMG A35 at the Auto Expo. The models are expected to be offered in two powertrain options: a 163 hp A200 petrol and 116 hp A 180d diesel engines. Once launched, the sedan will rival the likes of BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and Audi A3.

MG RC 6
The MG RC 6 is a 5-seater sedan. It is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 145 bhp and 250 Nm. The engine is mated to CVT (continuously variable transmission) transmission. The front features a large black grille and LED headlamps with integrated DRLs. While the rear gets a fastback design and features LED taillamps and a prominent boot lip spoiler. The sedan measures 4,925 mm, 1,880 mm and 1,580 mm in length, width and height respectively. the wheelbase stands at 2,800 mm. The display car at the Auto Expo had 18-inch machined alloys.
Features in the MG RC 6 includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an equivalent digital instrument cluster, leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and massive boot space. Once launched, the sedan will face competition from Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis.

The other sedan from MG to be displayed at the Auto Expo was the eMG6 hybrid sedan. The PHEV (plug in hybrid) was first revealed at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2017. It has a claimed range of 705 km. in electric form, it offers 53 km of range. It is a fastback styled sedan with 5 doors and 5 seats. Under the hood is a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine + 9.1 Kwh Li-ion battery with a combined figure of 300 bhp and 480 Nm. The mill is mated to a 10-speed transmission. The sedan measures 4,695 mm, 1,848 mm and 1,458 mm in length, width and height respectively. The wheelbase stands at 2,715 mm.
The feature kit includes dual zone climate control, ESC + XDS, internet connectivity, voice control, remote control, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch LED instrument cluster, MGPilot ADAS, automatic parking and electronic parking brake. The rivals of the eMG 6 includes Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic and Skoda Octavia.
Th recently launched Hyundai Aura was also on display at the Auto Expo. It gets three engine options: 1.2 litre petrol engine (83 PS/114 Nm), 1.0 litre turbo petrol (100 PS/172 Nm) and 1.2 litre diesel engine (75 PS/190 Nm). The 1.2 litre petrol and diesel engines are available in 5 speed manual and AMT while the 1.0 litre petrol engine gets only a 5-speed manual. The Aura rivals the Tata Tigor, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Volkswagen Ameo, Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire.
