Maruti-Suzuki S-Presso Scores Zero in Global NCAP Crash Test
Maruti S-Presso Scores Zero in Global NCAP Crash Test
The Global NCAP recently carried tests of cars made in India and selected the S-Presso for its crash testing with result coming in that the S-Presso has achieved zero star rating. Global NCAP only uses the entry-level version of cars and here also the S-Presso base variant was used. The S-Presso was only fitted with a driver airbag as standard. Global NCAP currently only tests frontal crash protection for occupants and not side impact and pedestrian protection.
The S-Presso has got zero stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection. Again only a driver airbag is standard. Global NCAP says that the high readings in the passenger neck was the reason for the zero score plus chest loadings in both front passengers were high while its structure was rated as unstable.
The footwell area was scored as unstable as well. Child occupant protection also had poor results for both child dummies in the dynamic test. The S-Presso does not offer 3 point belts in all positions as standard and has no ISOFIX anchorages for the Child Restraint Systems.
The last car tested was the Swift which got two stars. Maruti has replied and said that its cars meet the standards tested and certified by the Government of India.
