On the 16th of March 2020, Honda Cars India will be officially taking the wraps of the new generation Honda City in the nation. With this, the Honda City will receive it's fifth iteration in the Indian market. We at MyNewCar believe that the bookings for this new generation sedan will kick start from that day itself. Although the unveiling date has been revealed the launch date could be confirmed at unveiling.
The all new Honda City will share a lot of bits and pieces from the Thailand Spec model which was unveiled in Thailand in 2019. In addition to this, Honda will be adding in some Indian spec changes to suite the needs of the customers in the nation. The front end will be offered with a whole new look with sharp design elements. Front grille will be offered with a thick chrome bar, the front bumper will be redesigned and the headlamp unit will be completely redesigned giving it a jewel eye design. Following this, the tail light unit will also be offered a change with the signature U- Shaped design.
According to some media reports, we get to know that the fifth generation Honda City will also grow in size. The overall length will be increased by 100mm, width will be increased by 53mm and to give this sedan a more sportier look the height will be lowered by 28mm. Although the length has been increased, Honda will be shortening the wheelbase by 11mm on the new gen City.
Under the hood of the New Gen Honda City will be BS 6 compliant 1.5 litre milf hybrid petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel unit as well. The petrol engine will be able to generate 117 bhp of power and 145 Nm of twist, on the other hand, the oil burner will be able to churn out 100 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. There are also some rumours that Honda might launch the City RS as well. Under the hood will be a 1.0 litre Turbocharged petrol engine that generates 122 bhp of power and 173 Nm of torque. Transmission options will be the same six speed Manual and CVT gearbox.
MyNewCar expects that Honda will be launching the fifth generation City at a price ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh Ex-Showroom India. Launch dates will most probably be revealed during the official unveiling.
Upon it's launch, the 2020 Honda City will be competing head on with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market.
