Renault Captur : Most Underrated Car of India

There are quite a lot of underrated cars in India but the biggest one of them all has to be the Renault Captur. Launched around three years back it failed to start off on the right note and over the past few years did not sell at all. Thus it is without doubt the most underrated car ever sold in India and now that Renault has removed the model from its website the Captur is no longer on sale. In this article we will talk why the Captur was a good car that deserved more.
What was the Renault Captur?
The Captur was the crossover from Renault which was based on the same platform as the Duster. However the positioning was different from the Duster as it was a premium crossover unlike the more rugged Duster. The Captur was supposed to be the flagship product. It was launched at the end of 2017 and was priced at Rs 9.9 lakh. Later Renault gave it some tweaks and launched a petrol variant later but it was too late.
How was it?
As a product the Captur was pretty good and I particularly liked the exteriors while the excellent ride/handling was a positive. The diesel engine that the Captur came with was also impressive. I drove the car for some-time and had only positive things, especially the tough suspension and the brilliant ride. I also loved the looks and it was very efficient.
Any Negatives?
The Captur had a few flaws and that was the lack of automatic as unlike the Duster the Captur never got an auto. Also the clutch was a bit heavy while majorly it lacked features which were there on the Hyundai Creta plus it was not as spacious as the Duster or other SUVs too.
Why is it underrated?
Simply put the Captur deserved to sell a lot more. It had a brilliant suspension/ride and also looked good while the diesel engine was excellent.
Why has Renault discontinued it?
The diesel that the Captur came with has been removed from the Renault line-up due to BS6 and now its petrol only like the Duster. Plus with its new upcoming compact SUV, Renault wants to concentrate on that. The Duster also remains a brand and thus it will be the flagship of Renault.
Will it ever come back?
If Renault has discontinued it then chances of it coming back are slim. However Renault might bring it back with a BS6 turbo petrol which will also be there on the Duster.
