Will a Diesel iMT make sense for the Sonet?
KIA recently launched the new Sonet in India and as expected it has done very well in terms of numbers having record bookings and sales in a few days of being launched. Now KIA has launched the Sonet with two petrol engines including a turbo petrol and a standard 1.2 petrol. There is also the 1.5 diesel from the Seltos. Unlike rivals KIA has also offered the Sonet with a choice of not one but two gearbox options with the Sonet diesel. Yes alongside the manual the Sonet diesel also gets a 6-speed automatic torque converter. However KIA could further expand the Sonet range with the iMT version being paired to the diesel.
Will a diesel iMT make sense for the Sonet? Absolutely since there would be many who would be thinking that the diesel automatic is too expensive but who also want something more relaxing than a diesel manual. The iMT is basically a manual without the clutch and makes for easy city driving since you do not have to use the clutch plus it will not stall also.
The iMT in Sonet diesel would make sense and with only a small premium over the manual would actually turn out to be more popular. The engine in the Sonet diesel is making 115 bhp and 250Nm and the iMT would fit perfectly. Currently both the Hyundai Venue and the KIA Sonet offer iMTs and both only offer it in their turbo petrol engines. A diesel iMT Sonet would be a surprise and a bigger hit we think.
