Skoda will launch its upcoming SUV called as the Karoq on the 26th of this month. The Karoq would be the most affordable Skoda SUV in India and will be sold below the Kodiaq which is currently the most expensive and the only SUV in the Skoda India portfolio. The Karoq will be a petrol only model since all Skoda cars will be petrol for now. The move to BS6 means the old Skoda diesel engine that was there in the entire VW group is no longer operational though we might expect it to make a comeback in the next year.
Skoda Karoq Petrol Engine
Back to the petrol engine and it is a 1.5 litre turbo petrol with 150 bhp and 250Nm while there would be no manual gearbox offered as the Karoq will come with a DSG automatic gearbox standard. For India the Skoda Karoq would be coming in as a CBU or imported completely and while that would make it expensive, Skoda will make it value for money with only one fully loaded variant. It will come with the usual features and on top of that it will have a virtual instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, 9 airbags and a lot more.
Skoda Karoq Space
However it will not have 4x4 and instead would be a front wheel drive crossover only when launched as the 4x4 will only drive the cost higher and since most Indians do not do off-roading, this is a right decision taken by Skoda. In terms of space expect the Karoq to be spacious with decent front and rear legroom while the design is pure Skoda but has a more rounded look to it. It has the same grille like the Kodiaq but is smaller and has less presence but looks pleasing enough.
Skoda Karoq Price
There are big wheels offered in the sole trim and once launched there will be a sizeable amount of colour options. In terms of size and competition the Skoda Karoq will actually compete with the likes of the Jeep Compass and the Volkswagen T-Roc as it is a plus sized midsize crossover SUV. It will also compete with the higher end versions of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos though the Skoda would be a lot more expensive over the Korean cars at about Rs 20 lakh plus. This is the first new Skoda SUV to come before its made- in-India SUV debuts next year. The concept for that was shown at the Auto Expo.
