Tata Gravitas Unveiled at Auto Expo : Launch in First Half of Year 2021

Tata Motors has unveiled its much awaited flagship 7 seater SUV, Gravitas. The car was first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show 2019. The premium SUV has an extra row of seats. It will replace the Harrier to become the brand’s flagship product.
EXTERIOR
Starting from dimensions, the Gravitas is 63 mm longer and 80 mm taller as compared to the Harrier. The wheelbase remains the same. Up front, the styling of the Gravitas resembles closely with the Harrier. Move towards rear and you will clearly realise the differences from the Harrier. The rear gets tail lamps having different style from the Harrier. The rear has a larger quarter glass. It also gets a faux skid plate just like the Harrier. The black strip connecting the two tail lamps remain the same as the Harrier. The side profile is also slightly different from the Harrier. The bumper has been reworked. Along with that, there is black cladding on the lower body, squared wheel arches and a new set of alloys and roof rails.
INTERIOR
The interiors are more or less the same as the Harrier. The Gravitas gets a black beige colour theme for the interiors. The second-row seats are now captain seats. The third-row passengers get their own AC vents and charging sockets. There is a provision of 60:40 split to carve out more space.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Gravitas gets the same 2 litre BS VI compliant Kryotec diesel engine that produces 170 PS of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The same engine does the duty in Jeep Compass and MG Hector. The customers will have an option of choosing between a 6-speed manual and 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Harrier is equipped with three drive modes: Norma, Rough and Terrain.
FEATURES
The features in the Harrier include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, full colour TFT instrument cluster, fully automatic temperature control, multifunction steering wheel, shark fin antenna, Xenon HID projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 9 speaker music system by JBL. The new features in the 2020 Harrier include a panoramic sunroof, auto dimming interior rear-view mirror, six-way power adjustable driver’s seat and diamond cut 18-inch alloys and connected car technology from Tata. The Gravitas will miss out on the sunroof. In addition to these features, the Gravitas will also get features such as electronic parking brake with auto hold function.
SAFETY
As is the norm with Tata cars, the Gravitas will be one of the safest cars out there. The safety features include ABS with EBD, 6 airbags, traction control, hill hold, hill descent control, front fog lamps with cornering function, corner stability control, roll-over mitigation, reverse parking camera and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
RIVALS
Once launched, the Gravitas will rival MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV 500 and Honda CRV.
PRICE & LAUNCH DATE
The Gravitas is expected to be priced at least Rs. 1 Lakh over the Harrier, so that translates into Rs. 15 – Rs. 20 Lakh (ex showroom Delhi) price bracket. It will be launched in the first half of FY 2021.
