Crysta 2.8 Discontinued

Toyota has decided to pull the plug on the 2.8 litre engine it offered on its bestseller Innova Crysta. While the other engine options have been tweaked to meet the BS6 norms, the 2.8 litre diesel hasnāt been. Toyota has taken the decision based on the low sales volume of the variant and high costs incurred in the transition to BS6. The Japanese carmaker might have also discontinued the variant to avoid price overlap with the much more premium Kia Carnival. The BS4 2.8 litre 1GD-FTV diesel engine used to deliver 174 PS and 360 Nm of peak torque. The mill was mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Speaking to Autocar, Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, sales and service, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said ā Customer choices and preferences for the Innova Crysta were greatly inclined towards the 2.4 litre diesel, and we decided to rationalise the engine options, so the 2.8 litre diesel is for the Fortuner, and the 2.4 litre diesel is for the Innova Crysta.ā
CURRENT LINE-UP
That leaves the customers with two engine options: a 2.4 litre diesel and a 2.7 litre petrol engine. The 2.4 litre diesel engine produces 150 PS and 343 Nm of peak torque when mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The same engine is now also offered with a 6 speed automatic transmission. In this case the engine produces 150 PS and 360 Nm of peak torque. The BS6 diesel engine now gets the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) technologies. On the other hand, the 2.7 litre petrol engine churns out 166 PS and 245 Nm of peak torque. The transmission options include a 5 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic transmission.
