2021 MG Hector CVT vs DCT Petrol Automatic SUV Comparison

2021 MG Hector CVT vs DCT Petrol Automatic SUV Comparison
MG has added another variant to its Hector range with the new CVT option being launched in India. You will remember that some time back the facelifted Hector was launched with updates to the features list and the Hector Plus also got a 7-seater variant. Now the Hector petrol range gets a CVT option. What is the CVT all about and how different it is from the DCT petrol Hector is what we will discuss here.
What Has Changed in 2021 MG Hector ?
The 5-seater Hector and the Hector Plus gets a CVT for the petrol trim. Till now the Hector has a DCT dual clutch automatic available and a manual of course but this adds another variant plus more buyers for the Hector petrol. The CVT will be sold alongside the DCT. The CVT in the Hector is an 8-speed one which also has a sports mode along with an eco mode for saving fuel.
Advantages of CVT over DCT in 2021 MG Hector?
The CVT Hector is for those who want an SUV for city use and that is exactly where the CVT actually works. A CVT automatic is smoother in the city at low speeds plus another big advantage is the fact that a CVT is more efficient over a DCT so you gain more fuel economy. Overall a CVT is more city-based and gets better efficiency over the DCT. A CVT is also said to be more reliable than a DCT transmission.
Disadvantages of CVT over DCT in 2021 MG Hector?
A CVT automatic has the rubber-band effect or it is not as smooth at high speeds as a DCT and nor it is as good to drive. Hence for those who like driving and head put for road trips etc the DCT is the better bit while on the other hand, the CVT suits those who commute long distances within the city.
2021 Hector CVT Engine
The engine remains the same with the 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine making 143hp, the diesel does not get the automatic along with the mild-hybrid.
