Best Performing SUV’s in Feb 2020
With the lockdown due to the coronavirus now having been extended to the 30th of April 2020, the sales of automobiles have been completely shut. It might take weeks or even months for normalcy to return. Hence talking about the best selling SUV for this month won't do justice at all.. So let's take a look at the best performing SUVs for the month of Feb 2020.
1. KIA SELTOS
Kia Motors has managed to sell 14,024 units in the month of Feb which has helped them to reach the 75,000 milestone within seven months. With this, the Kia Seltos witnessed its second best sales performance, with the highest being 15,000 units sold in the month of Jan 2020. Back in 22nd August 2020, Kia Motors launched the Seltos in the Indian market and up till the end of Feb 2020 Kia Motors has managed to sell around 74,250 units. In which the diesel models comprised 35,902 units and the etroll models comprised 38,348 units, thus making a 48:52 split ratio. With the prices now hiked by Rs 35,000 the overall price range is now placed between Rs 9.89 lakh to Rs 17.34 lakh. Here the petrol base variant is offered with a hike of Rs 20,000 whereas the models above it notice a hike by Rs 30,000 and the diesel models notice a hike of Rs 35,000.
In the month of Feb 2020, Maruti Suzuki has sold around 11,782 units of the Ertiga, thus making it the best sales in the 11 month period. Hence it has shown the best performance in the first quarter of 2020. Taking the 11 months consideration, the second best sales was seen in the month of June 2019 with 9,218 units sold. Overall in these 11 months (April-Feb), Maruti Suzuki has managed to sell a total of 86,574 units. Here the diesel models consist of 39,731 units, the petrol variant comprises 46,863 units and hence making a split ratio of 46:54. If we compare these numbers with the year-ago period, Ertiga had only managed to 56,308 units. Thus we can say that this MPV recorded a 53 percent year on year growth.
Hyundai Venue comes at third spot with 10,321 units sold in the month of Feb 2020. Thus making it the first compact SUV from Hyundai to see more units sold as compared to the statistics in comparison with the month of Jan 2020. Overall, Hyundai managed to sell 6733 more units of the Venue. Taking the 11 month cycle of the April 2019 to Feb 2020, Hyundi has sold a total 87,497 units of the Venue in the Indian market. In total the 32,516 units of the diesel models were sold, whereas the 54,981 units of the petrol models were sold. Thus making a split ratio of 37:63 of the diesel-petrol models. In all we can say that the consumers are moving more towards the compact SUV models in the SUV segment.
After much waiting, Maruti Suzuki has launched the petrol model for the Vitara Brezza in its new iteration. With many new models such as the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Seltos now in the competition, Maruti Suzuki had to revamp its line up in the compact SUV category. With the new iteration now launched, we saw the entry of the petrol powered engines, but the diesel mills on the other hand have been discontinued. Thus all of these factors have surely hit the sales performance of the Vitara Brezza. In total, Maruti Suzuki sold around 6866 units of the Vitara Brezza with 6848 units of the new petrol models, whereas the BS-IV iteration of the diesel units saw only 18 units. Under the hood of the BS-VI compliant Vitara Brezza now is the K15B 1.5 litre petrol engine which is being replaced with the BS-IV compliant 1.3 litre oil burner. Since its launch back in March 2016, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 5.18 lakh units of the Vitara Brezza until Feb 2020 in a total of 47 months.
Toyota has managed to sell 5459 units of the Innova Crysta in the month of Feb 2020. In total 5383 models of the diesel were sold with only 76 petrol models. Taking a look at the year on year sales in feb 2020, the numbers have been down by 21.52 percent. In the 11 month cycle from April 2019 to Feb 2020, the sales have been down by 230 percent. Back 2005 with the launch of the first gen Innova until feb 2020 around 9 lakh units of the models were sold in the Indian market. The sales of the Innova has regularly contributed to by 40 percent to the overall sales of Toyota in the nation. At the start of this year, Toyota introduced the BS-VI compliant models of the Innova Crysta. In which the petrol model is powered with a 2.7 litre unit whereas the diesel model gets the 2.4 litre oil burner. With this, the 2.8 litre diesel engine has been discontinued from the line up. With these upgrades the price tag also has seen an increase by Rs 11,000 to Rs 12,000 in accordance with the trim levels.
