Car Comparison : MG Hector Plus vs Hector

MG says first of all the Hector Plus is not some proper MPV (being a three row MPV) as the third row is more for children. The focus is on the second row and enhancing the appeal of the Hector. Thus it is not a MPV but a more practical and luxurious Hector. So should you buy the standard Hector or spend more for the Plus? Let us find out.
Different Look
The Hector Plus does look different from the standard Hector and is not some small change. It is of the same width and the height but what has changed is the length which has increased due to the bumpers being updated. You will also know that the new Hector Plus looks sportier with a black grille and new DRLs plus even the lower headlamps are newer. The rear also gets small updates. The wheels stay the same at 17inch and look way too small for the huge body. In terms of colour there is indeed a new one that you see here.
Interiors
The Hector is all about the space and that has been updated in the Hector Plus. You will immediately see the changes with a new look cabin. There is a new and luxurious leather brown or tan look which is used on the dashboard and the door pads plus the seats are in that upholstery. It looks plusher and we think it looks better than the standard Hector. The second row gets two individual seats and these are the main reasons which you would buy one. There is fantastic space on offer while the massive panoramic sunroof also adds to the ambience. You can also really recline the rear seat and get some much needed sleep between meetings! There is another row at the back but using that is a bit tricky if you are an adult and it is perhaps for children but there are AC vents for that row. Features wise you get everything like you get on the Hector and we would say the touchscreen is now improved. There is a new chit-chat feature for the voice command system.
Driving Experience
The Hector Plus has the same engine options as the Hector and the pick if the 1.5 turbo petrol with the DCT automatic. The diesel does not get an automatic and has a slightly heavy clutch as we discovered on the standard Hector. The Hector Plus is meant to be driven and in that way the automatic DCT is relaxing to drive. The petrol makes 143 bhp and 250Nm while the car is easy to drive. The gearbox takes time to respond but is smooth in the city at low speeds and will easily sit at high speeds. It also swallows bad roads very well.
Which one to buy?
The Hector Plus starts at Rs 13.4 lakh and throughout the range, the Plus is only upto Rs 65,000 more expensive over the standard Hector. So there is no doubt that the Hector Plus is the one to buy as it is better looking and the interior is also much nicer plus the extra price you pay is more than worth it. It is not an MPV but a much better Hector. Our advice is the Hector Plus is the one you would buy over the standard Hector.
