Toyota Urban Cruiser VS Toyota Yaris - Car Comparison

Best Toyota Car between Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh - Toyota Urban Cruiser or Toyota Yaris?
Toyota has finally taken covers off the much-awaited Urban Cruiser and with this, a lot of details have been unveiled as well. The Urban Cruiser is the rebadged version of the top trim levels of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza which will be launched with some cosmetic changes. We at MyNewCar have compared the specifications with the Toyota Yaris sedan, to help you know how both the cars from different segments compete with each other.
Dimensions
Toyota Urban Cruiser | Toyota Yaris
Length | 3995mm | 4425mm |
Width | 1790mm | 1730mm |
Height | 1640mm | 1495mm |
Wheelbase | 2500mm | 2550mm |
As the Toyota Yaris falls into the sedan segment, the length of it is much longer as compared to the Toyota Urban Cruiser. In addition to this, the wheelbase on the Yaris is 50mm longer as well. Being a compact SUV, the Urban Cruiser is wider and is also taller as compared to the Yaris, thus providing a spacious cabin and better headroom and ground clearance.
Exterior
When it comes to the design, the Toyota Glanza was criticised to carry over the same elements from the Baleno. With the Urban Cruiser, Toyota has definitely taken this feedback and worked extensively upon it. The Urban Cruiser does get the silhouette of the Vitara Brezza but also gets a redesigned front face which is inspired by the Toyota Fortuner. It gets redesigned front bumper and fog lamp casing and a reworked headlight setup. In addition to this, it also gets plastic cladding all over, the side profile and the rear end remains unchanged and it gets nine colour options with six single tone options and three dual-tone options.
On the other hand, the Toyota Yaris looks very striking with its aggressive-looking slim headlamp units, sporty front face and two-tone front bumper. Overall, the Yaris looks very much balanced and simple as we move along the side profile. At the rear, the boot looks very appealing due to the wrap-around headlamp unit and the bulged out rear bumper.
Interior
The interior design from the Vitara Brezza has been carried over into the Urban Cruiser, but instead of an all-black cabin, it is being offered with a dual done scheme and dark brown fabric seats with rain pattern. It comes loaded with the Maruti’s 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple and Apple CarPlay. In addition to this, it also comes equipped with automatic climate control, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers and power mirrors.
On the other hand, the interior design of the Yaris is very much simple and neat and offers ample legroom and doesn’t feel cramped. The cabin is offered with a waterfall design on the centre console and the placement of the important controls quiet comfortable to reach out. When it comes down to features and modern technology, the Yaris has the upper hand as it comes loaded with better standard features such as projector headlamps, keyless entry, driver seat height adjustment and 8-way adjustable driver seat and 6-way adjustable passenger seat. The top trim levels come loaded with keyless go, automatic climate control, roof-mounted rear AC vents, touchscreen infotainment unit, cruise control and rain-sensing wipers.

Power | 103 bhp | 106 bhp |

Transmission | 5-speed MT / 4-speed AT | 6-speed MT / 7-speed CVT |
Both the Urban Cruiser and the Yaris are only powered with a petrol engine and they do not get the diesel engine option. As the Urban Cruiser is based on the Vitara Brezza, powering this compact SUV is a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine from Maruti Suzuki. Whereas the Yaris is powered with Toyota’s 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine which is more powerful than the former. Unlike the Urban Cruiser which gets the 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission, the Yaris gets the option for 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed CVT gearbox which is much smoother. But when it comes to modern technology, the Urban Cruiser is one step ahead as it gets the mild-hybrid system on all the automatic models. This assists the engine to deliver torque during acceleration, regenerative braking and idle Start/Stop.
Safety Features
The Urban Cruiser comes equipped with the basic safety features which includes front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, child seat anchor points, seat belt reminder system and speed alert system. On the other hand, the Yaris has the upper hand in terms of safety as it comes loaded with 7 airbags, Brake Assist, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Control, rear disc brake and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System over and above the basic safety features.
Price
Toyota Urban Cruiser | Toyota Yaris
Ex-Showroom, India | Rs 8.50 lakh – Rs 11.50 lakh * Expected | Rs 8.87 lakh – Rs 14.31 lakh |
As of now, the prices for the Urban Cruiser hasn’t been revealed, but as it is based on the top trim levels of the Vitara Brezza, we at MyNewCar expect to be priced between Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 11.50 lakh Ex-Showroom, India. On the other hand, the price tag on the Yaris starts from Rs 8.87 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 14.31 lakh Ex-Showroom as it gets more variant options and better comfort and safety features.
Verdict
If you’re looking out for a car with a spacious cabin, advanced and economical petrol engine, the Urban Cruiser fits right in the space. On the other hand, the Yaris excels for reliability, excellent resale value and advanced creature comfort and safety features.
