Powering the petrol model Altroz will be a BS 6 compliant 1.3 litre, naturally aspirated, three cylinder unit. This engine is capable of churning out 86bhp of power and 113 Nm of twist. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki powers the Baleno with a K12B petrol mill that puts out 83bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. In addition to this, Maruti Suzuki also powers the Baleno with a K12C petrol mill which produces 90bhp of power and 113Nm or twist.
Keeping these engine options aside, Maruti Suzuki also gets in a sporty version of the Baleno which is known as the Baleno RS and it is powered by a 1.0 litre, turbocharged engine that puts out 102 bhp of power and 150Nm of twist. On the other hand, we were expecting Tata Motors to get in the Nexon sourced 1.2 litre, three cylinder, turbocharged unit which gives sour 102 bhp of power. But as of now there isn't any information about it. Hence the Baleno is a clear winner in terms of powerful power figures and multiple engine options to choose from.
In terms of transmission, Tata is only getting the five speed manual transmission, it is anticipated that an AMT unit may come in a later stage. But what makes the Altroz stand out of the crowd is the availability of driving mode- City and Eco. On the other hand, Baleno gets the option of a five speed manual and CVT gearbox.

Coming to the oil burners, Tata powers the diesel model Altroz with a BS6 compliant 1.5 litre unit which also powers the Nexon. This power house develops 90 bhp of power and 200Nm of twist. As of now, Maruti Suzuki powers the diesel model Baleno with a BS 4 compliant 1.2 litre unit that churns out 75 bhp of power and 190 Nm of twist. Maruti will be discontinuing the diesel engines owing to the BS 6 compliant rules which will come into place from April 2020. Both the Baleno and the Altroz come coupled with a five speed manual transmission and just like the petrol model Altroz even the diesel models get driving modes- City and Eco.

Verdict
As of now we will have to wait until the launch to get the confirmation on the pricing. But owing to the BS 6 compliance, we feel that the Altroz will be placed with a competitive price. In addition to this, the features and the diesel mill does give a boost to the Altroz, but we will have to wait until the official launch for accurate results.
