New Hyundai Creta vs Tucson 2020 - COMPARISON

The new Creta has been a huge success for Hyundai India and it cannot make it enough. It is currently the best selling SUV in India also. However upward in the range, the Tucson has not found the same level of success and that has been due to the fact that the price and the segment which the Tucson has been in, has seen a drop in sales. However, now with added competition in the premium SUV segment like the T-Roc from Volkswagen to the Karoq from Skoda, Hyundai re-launched the new Tucson in India. The SUV was first shown at the 2020 Auto Expo while it was launched some time back. Now in this exclusive comparison, we will see how the Tucson compares with the new Creta.
Looks and Dimensions
It is clear that the new Creta is smaller than the Tucson. The new Tucson also looks bigger than the Creta. You have new 18inch wheels and an updated new look front end in the Tucson which looks more premium while the Creta looks more aggressive with the way the headlamp is divided especially. The Tucson is wider, taller and longer than the Creta but the Creta is not far behind in the premium appeal. The Tucson has the bigger SUV feel to it and looks much better now. The Creta is more youthful. You also get more colour options in the Creta than the Tucson.
Interior
It is clear that on the inside both appeal to different tastes. The Tucson is an old car that has been facelifted hence it is shown on the inside where it carries the previous look of the Hyundai cars. That said there is no faulting with the quality and Hyundai have done some small changes to make it more premium. The Creta interior is more futuristic and comes across as more modern with the new look steering wheel and digital dials along with the new look automatic gear lever. The new Tucson interior does feel a bit better in the quality of the plastics used inside. Both cars are also quite spacious. The new Creta is more spacious over the previous Creta with more than good legroom at the back and softer seats plus cushions. In terms of space the Tucson wins with a bigger cabin plus more legroom of course along with shoulder room. Even the boot is bigger in the Tucson.
Features
Both are Hyundai premium SUVs hence both are very well equipped indeed. You get pretty much everything you want and more with basics with climate control, sunroof, rear ac vents, connected tech, powered driver’s seat, wireless charging, electric handbrake and more being covered. We will discuss some of the feature differences.
The Tucson has actually a smaller 8inch touchscreen as the Creta has a 10.25 inch touchscreen and the modern one. That said both the cars have the latest updated Hyundai infotainment system but the Creta looks and feels better. Then the Creta has digital dials which is missing in the Tucson. The new Tucson has an 10-way adjustable driver’s seat while the Creta is a 8-way. The new Creta though has an air purifier and ventilated plus cooled seats. Both have a big panoramic sunroof though plus also offer premium audio systems with the Creta offering a Bose audio while the Tucson has an Infinity system. Both also have drive modes.
Engines
The new Tucson has more powerful engines than the Creta but the Creta offers more choice and better fuel economy along with more tech. The Creta gets a 1.5l petrol as standard with manual as well as a CVT then there is a 1.4 turbo petrol with a DCT option. There is also a 1.5L diesel. The Tucson has a 2.0 diesel and a petrol. The petrol has a 6-speed auto while the diesel is a 8-speed auto.
The Tucson diesel makes 185 bhp and gets an 8-speed auto which is better than the 115 bhp diesel with a 6-speed auto. In petrol though the 1.4l turbo in the Creta offers 140 bhp and a 7-speed DCT while the 2.0 petrol in the Tucson offers 152 bhp but an old 6-speed auto. One advantage that the Tucson offers you is the AWD which the Creta does not and that is useful when off-roading or when needing grip.
Verdict
Prices of the Tucson start at Rs 22 lakh and go till Rs 27 lakh for the top-end. The Creta starts at Rs 9.8 lakh and goes till Rs 17.3 lakh for the top-end. It is clear that if you want space and AWD then the Tucson s the bigger and more luxurious SUV plus a better option for those with a family who travels together with needing the added space. However the Creta looks more futuristic and has more features while being better to drive with the more hi-tech 7-speed DCT while offering more value and in some case added luxury. Thus the Creta is the value and practical choice here.
