New 2020 Hyundai i20 vs Old i20 Side by Side Comparison
New 2020 Hyundai i20 vs i20 Side by Side Comparison. What's New?
Hyundai completely changed the premium hatchback segment when it launched the current Elite i20 many years back. The design or quality or features was unheard of in hatchback cars at that point. Of course Volkswagen had the Polo and Honda had the Jazz but Hyundai was the most successful with the i20 with a broader client base. The Elite i20 has gone on to become a big seller for Hyundai and now there is time for the new generation. The new i20 is completely different and features more technology along with features and engines too. Here is a comparison of the 2020 upcoming new Hyundai i20 vs Elite i20.
In this comparo between the new i20 vs Elite i20, you can see how the design has changed. The new i20 would be slightly longer but also wider along with having a bigger wheelbase. The biggest change is the new look front and unlike the old two-part grille on the current Elite i20, the new one has a much bigger grille with bigger headlamps connected. The front bumper is also sharper and there are more lines on the bonnet too. It clearly has a more muscular stance. The new i20 would be expected to have LED DRls while it would also get new 16inch wheels or maybe even 17inch ones. The side and rear are also much more aggressive looking over the current Elite i20 with a larger set of tail-lamps and a much more shapely rear bumper. It is much more premium and sportier over the current Elite i20.
INTERIORS AND FEATURES
The current Elite i20 set the standards with its feature rich and quality cabin many years back. It still looks good but the new i20 cabin makes it look dated. The new i20 jumps forward in terms of quality or design. There is a massive new touchscreen plus the new steering wheel seen on the Creta or Venue along with digital instruments. You can also see the continuous running design of the air vents which looks stylish. Quality is also expected to take a giant leap. We also expect the new i20 to have a more spacious interior with a wider cabin meaning three can sit better while the seats are more comfortable now.
In terms of features the new i20 gets Hyundai's latest suite of tech and connectivity options. You of course will get BlueLink but it might be the advanced version plus it will have digital dials, a massive 10 inch plus touch screen along with features like a wireless charger, cruise control, rear ac vents, smartphone connectivity and more.
ENGINES AND GEARBOX
The current Elite i20 at launch offered both petrol and diesel engines while later it got an automatic gearbox. This time with the launch at start the new i20 would come with two petrol engines- a 1.2l petrol and a 1.0 turbo petrol engine. The turbo petrol will also get the DCT automatic gearbox. The 1.2l petrol will get a CVT and a manual. There would be a 1.5l diesel similar to the Venue as well. Though it would be manual only.
The current i20 starts at Rs 6.5 lakh but the new one with all the additions in tech and features plus with more luxury would be more expensive while the top-end petrol with the DCT would be further expensive still at probably crossing Rs 10 lakh. We expect prices to start at just under Rs 7 lakh for the new i20 though. Overall the new i20 is a massive change and offers you a lot more choice in terms of engines and features. It will offer you features not seen on a car of this class and is certainly worth waiting for.
