SUV Comparison : Skoda Kushaq vs VW Taigun vs KIA Sonet
COMPARISON : Skoda Kushaq vs Volkswagen Taigun vs Kia Sonet
We have earlier compared the Kushaq and the Taigun with its natural rivals like the Seltos and Creta but actually with both these new SUVs being slightly smaller, it is trying to open a new segment. Both the Kushaq and the Taigun are trying to exist in the subcompact and compact SUV space. Hence we will today compare the specs of one of the most popular SUVs- the Kia Sonet against the new duo from the VW group in India.
Here the biggest changes are seen with the Sonet being below 4m and the Kushaq/Taigun being above 4m. In terms of length the Sonet stands a 3,995mm while the Kushaq and Taigun have similar length of 4,221mm. The Kushaq/Taigun have a similar figure of 1760mm while the Sonet is actually wider at 1790mm. In terms of wheelbase the Sonet stands at 2500mm while the Kushaq/Taigun offers more at 2651mm.
The Sonet is one of the best equipped subcompact SUVs and takes the fight to more expensive SUVs as seen here. You get premium features like rear door sunshade curtains, voice commands for sunroof open and close, electric sunroof, air purifier, smart key with push button start, paddle shifters, connected car tech, wireless charging and more. The Kushaq and Taigun would have a slightly smaller touch screen at 10inch but they would also be feature loaded like connected car tech, wireless charging, digital dials (only in Taigun), USB Type-C ports, sunroof, climate control and more.
The Kushaq/Taigun will get a 1.0 TSI turbo petrol as standard with 115bhp/175Nm. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The Sonet base variant is a 1.2l engine with 83bhp/115Nm. You also get a diesel with 115bhp in the diesel auto while there is a 100bhp manual diesel manual version too. In terms of top-spec engines, the Kushaq/Taigun will get a 1.5 TSI with 150 bhp/250Nm while the gearbox options include a standard 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG auto. The Sonet 1.0 turbo gets a 120 bhp/172Nm power figure while you can either get this engine with an iMT gearbox or a 7-speed DCT.
The prices start at Rs 6.8 lakh for the Sonet and go till Rs 13.3 lakh for the top-end version. We expect the Kushaq and Taigun to be priced around Rs 10-16 lakh. In terms of power or features the Sonet is actually comparable in many terms and in features, actually has more that said the Kushaq and Taigun have more space and power with their top-end versions while you can get a turbo manual option unlike in the Sonet. Similarly you have a diesel option in the Sonet which the Kushaq/Taigun do not have. Hence if you like features and space is not an issue the Sonet is more valuable but the Kushaq and Taigun are worth the stretch if you want space and the added power.
