Top Hatchback Revealed in 2020 Auto Expo

The Auto Expo 2020 was a whirlwind of showcases from various automotive manufacturers. Here we got to see various concept vehicles, new technology, facelifts of various models and upcoming launches as well. Hence we at MyNewCar have brought to you a list of top hatchbacks showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.
1. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Turbo
Hyundai showcased the Grand i10 NIOS Turbo at the Auto Expo and it was one of the most eye-catching elements for all car enthusiasts. Under the hood of the Grand I10 Nios Turbo was a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine which put out 100 bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. This is the same three cylinder engine which powers the Venue Compact SUV and the Aura Compact Sedan. The turbo petrol unit is coupled with a five speed manual gearbox only. As of now there is no news when will an automatic transmission come into place. In terms of design and aesthetics, Hyundai Motors has offered the Nios Turbo with quite some cosmetic changes to differ from the standard model and also to give it a sporty look. MyNewCar expects Hyundai to offer a price tag of more than Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 over the top end Grand I10 Nios. Also this model is expected to launch in the first half of this year.
2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Facelift
Maruti Suzuki showcased it's niche hatchback the Ignis at the 2020 Auto Expo and it has been offered with a facelift. The Indian car manufacturer has upgraded the New Ignis with cosmetic changes that makes it look like the Jimny’s cousin and it is also offered with new colour options to choose from. Coming to the feature elements, now there will be a 7.0 inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit and it will also be loaded with the S-Connect in-car connectivity suite. In addition to the visual updates, Maruti Suzuki has gone forward to offer this hatchback with mechanical upgrades as well. Powering the Ignis facelift is a 1.2 litre petrol unit that is compatible with the BS-6 emission norms. All of these updates do come with a bump in the price tag, MyNewCar expects that there will be an increase by Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000 across all the variants. Bookings for the Ignis facelift has kickstarted and the launch is expected to be in the next month of March 2020.
3. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG
At Maruti Suzuki’s stand, the recently launched S-Presso was displayed but it does come with a tweak. The model showcased was a CNG version which was awaited by many. With this, now the S-Presso becomes the first model to roll out from Maruti Suzuki’s stable to be compatible with a BS-6 compliant CNG version. Under the hood will be a 1.0 litre K-Series petrol engine which will be fitted with a factory fitted CNG kit. Maruti Suzuki is offering the S-Presso S-CNG only in four different trim levels, namely - LXi, LXi Option, VXi and VXi Option. The launch is expected to happen in the coming weeks and we at MyNewCar are expecting the price hike to be around Rs 60,000 in comparison with the petrol models counterpart.
4. Maruti-Suzuki Swift Hybrid
Taking the show by the storm was the JDM spec version of the Swift Hybrid. This model helps in displaying the manufacturers hybrid technology and to create an interest for customers in such types of cars. In terms of aesthetics and design the Swift Hybrid looks very similar to the standard model sold in the Indian market but does come with many tweaks which uplifts the car. These mods include a honeycomb grille which comes with an integrated radar, 10-spoke,16 inch alloy wheels strapped on with low rolling resistance tyres and it also gets “Hybrid” badges all over. The interiors are offered with blue accents and the rest remains unchanged. Pop up the hood and this car gets a 1.2 litre K12C four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that is paired with an electric motor. This petrol engine has a more efficient Dualjet fuel injection system and it also has a higher compression ratio. This powerhouse is capable of churning out an increase in 8 bhp of power and 7Nm of twist. The electric motor helps in assisting 10kW and 30Nm of torque. As of now it isn't clear that Maruti Suzuki will launch the Swift Hybrid in the nation, but if the demand for these cars increases, we will surely see them on our roads.
5. Renault Triber AMT
Renault launched the Triber some time ago, but it was lacking some mechanical changes. Now at the 2020 Auto Expo, Renault did work upon it and showcased the Triber AMT. This sub four meter seven seater model will also be offered with a powerful unit which will be launched at a later stage. As of now, Reanult has brought in the five speed AMT unit that is coupled with a 1.0 litre petrol engine that generates 72 bhp of power. In terms of other upgrades, everything will be the same from the manual counterparts. But we at MyNewCar are predicting that one will have to shell out more Rs 50,000 for the automatic version. The launch is scheduled to take place in the second half of 2020.
6. Renault Zoe
The French car maker showcased an all electric hatchback, which is known as the Zoe. Renault plans to launch the Zoe hatchback with some tweaks to accommodate the condition in our nation. The Zoe will come equipped with a 52kWh battery setup and the electric motor can deliver 134 bhp of power and 245Nm of torque. This electric motor comes with WLTP-certified range of 395knm and the battery packs can be charged from 0 to 70 % in just 55mins with a 50kW DC fast charger. Renault will be launching the Zoe all electric car somewhere around 2021 in the nation.
7. Renault K-ZE EV
At Renault's stand at the 2020 Auto Expo, another electric car was showcased and it is the most awaited Kwid based EV. This electric vehicle is known as the K-ZE and it will be locally assembled in the nation. Thus it will help the French car maker to launch this EV in a competitive price tag. The electric motor of the K-ZE will be powered by a 26.8 kWh lithium ion battery pack and it will be able to churn out 44 bhp of power and 125Nm of torque. On the NEDC cycle the KZE offers a range of 271KM and the DC fast charger helps in charging the battery from 30% to 80-% in justy 30 minutes. Renault may launch this electric vehicle during the end of this year or first half of 2021.
8. Tata Altroz EV
Some weeks ago, Tata launched the Nexon EV and it was the first model to come with the manufacturer’s Ziptron technology. At the Auto Expo, Tata showcased the Altroz EV and it will be the second vehicle to get the Zipton technology. With this, the range and performance of the AltroZ EV is expected to be increased when compared to the Nexon EV. As the Altroz EV is lighter when compared to the Nexon EV, even if a similar electric motor and battery pack is strapped on, the figures will be better for this electric premium hatchback. We at MyNewcar expect Tata Motors to launch the Altroz EV in the festive season for 2020.
