BS6 Maruti Celerio CNG and BS6 Maruti Tour H2 launched
With the pandemic and the need of social distancing, the car sale may rise in the coming months. And with limited budget, family hatchbacks are expected to be most popular. With the pandemic still in effect, a lot of carmakers postponed the launch of its BS6 versions while the lockdown was underway but now, we are looking forward to more BS6 hatchback launches than ever before.
Maruti has launched the BS6 S-CNG versions of Celerio and the taxi version Tour H2. The BS6 S-CNG Celerio becomes the 7th model in the company lineup which includes Alto, WagonR, Eeco, Tour S, Ertiga and Super Carry.
This S-CNG platform is a part of Mission Green Million initiative by Maruti Suzuki which was announced at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year. Maruti Suzuki has each of the S-CNG vehicles is fitted with dual interdependent ECUS (Electronic Control Units and Intelligent Injection System). The cars will come factory fitted with the feature and tuned and calibrated to offer optimum performance and enhanced drivability.
Celerio S-CNG offers a mileage of 30.47 km/km which is much lesser than the BS4 version that offered 31.76 km/kg. No specifications are introduced yet but the car is expected to get the same engine as the BS4 Celerio. The BS4 CNG Celerio was powered by K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produced 59.14 PS and 78 Nm of torque and was mated to a 5-speed manual. The BS6 compliant Celerio is expected to retain the BS6 version of the same engine.
Variants and prices:
|Model||Variant||BS4 Price||BS6 price||Difference|

Celerio is one of the most popular cars by Maruti so far. The hatchback has been favored mostly by the younger generation because of the ride quality, decent appearance and fuel efficiency. The mission green mile initiative has a target sale of 1 million green vehicles over the next few years. The initiative endorses the government’s vision of enhancing the use of natural gases while reducing the oil imports.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to roll out more CNG cars in the future. The next CNG model to be launched by Maruti is likely to be the S-Presso CNG. Apart from that, Maruti is hoping to introduce more mild hybrid and smart hybrid vehicles which are fitted with SVHS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle System Technology) in coming years.
