Hyundai Grand I10 Nios Update at Auto Expo 2020

The Grand i10 NIOS is an important car for Hyundai. Along with the Santro and Hyundai Elite i20, they bring in the majority of numbers for the South Korean brand. Despite the growing popularity of the compact SUV segment, the hatchbacks still remain a vital segment especially for first time buyers. To bring in more numbers of the Grand i10 NIOS, Hyundai revealed a sportier version of the Grand i10 at the recently concluded Auto Expo. This variant will be added to the existing line up of the Grand i10 NIOS.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The sportier NIOS gets a BS6 compliant 1.0 litre 3 cylinder direct injection turbo petrol engine that delivers 100 hp and 172 Nm of peak torque. The engine also does duty on the Hyundai Venue, where it delivers 120 hp and 172 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission, just like the Aura compact sedan. An automatic gearbox may be added later. On the other hand, the Venue has the option of either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7 speed DCT.
EXTERIOR & INTERIOR
On the exterior, it’s not just the ‘Turbo’ badging, i.e., the addition but the hatchback features some new design elements to give it a fresh sportier look. It gets a blackened front grille and blackened roof as well as a new bumper. Carrying the exterior colour theme to the interior, the NIOS gets an all black interior with sporty contrast red stitching.
FEATURES
As the NIOS turbo is based on the Sportz trim and not the top end Asta, the customers will lose out features such as wireless phone charger, adjustable rear headrests, push button start, boot lamp, rear wash and wiper and leather wrapped steering. The features that will be offered include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital speedometer, steering mounted controls, projector headlamps, power folding ORVMs, climate control, cooled glovebox, keyless entry and projector headlamps with DRLS. The safety features on the hatchback include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, central locking, parking assist, driver and passenger seat belt reminder, rear defogger, rear parking sensors, rear view camera and speed alert system.
RIVALS
With this update, the Grand i10 NIOS joins the club of sportier hatchbacks. Its main rivals include Tiago JTP, Volkswagen Polo and Ford Figo.
PRICES
The Grand i10 NIOS Turbo costs Rs. 1.25 Lakh more than the 1.2 litre petrol Sportz. It will be available in two variants: Sportz and Sportz Dual Tone. Hyundai has already started bookings of this hatchback.
