New Generation Honda City Likely to Launch in 2020

The fifth generation Honda City has been unveiled in Thailand as world premiere. It is expected to arrive on Indian shores in mid-2020. It draws some inspiration from the Honda Civic and Honda Jazz in the exterior and interior department respectively. Several changes have been made to the outgoing model, be it exterior, interior or the engine. Let us check out what the new Honda City has to offer.
ENGINE
The new City is powered by an all-new 3 cylinder, 12 valve, 1.0 litre iVTEC turbo engine that produces 120 BHP and a peak torque of 173 Nm and is mated to a 7 speed CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with paddle shaft. The new city delivers an impressive mileage of 23.8 kmpl as per Thai testing standards. It is also expected from Honda that it will introduce a 1.5 litre petrol engine with hybrid technology on the new city. The India spec model is expected to get this engine option along with a BS 6 compliant 1.5 litre engines in petrol and diesel.
EXTERIOR
The new Honda City gets a sharper and sportier design. The main highlights are new bumper design, thick front chrome grille, that is based on Honda’s design language, projector wraparound headlamps with LED DRLs, elongated LED taillamp unit with distinctive elements, 15-inch multi spoke diamond alloys with a fresh design, shark fin antenna. The side profile gets sharp character lines. In terms of dimensions too, the new City is longer by 100 mm and wider by 53 mm. It sees a decrease in its height by 28 mm and its wheelbase by 11 mm.
INTERIOR
The sedan gets black interiors with two tone leather seats and Piano black console. We can expect the Indian spec version to get beige and black theme. The dashboard layout has also been tweaked, inspired by the new Honda Jazz with vertical air con with climate control switches below. The cabin of the new City is more spacious and luxurious than the outgoing model. The features include 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Voice Control and Honda Connect infotainment, multi-function three spoke steering wheel MID with illumination, automatic air conditioning unit and automatic start stop system.
SAFETY FEATURES
The 2020 Honda City is equipped with a number of safety features that include six airbags, brake assist, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, G force control body structure and multi angle rear view camera.
RIVALS
The primary rivals of the Honda City in India include Skoda Rapid, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento.
VARIANTS
In Thai market, the new City is being offered in four variants: S, V, SV and the performance oriented RS.
