Renault has been making quite a few changes in their line up to cope up with the growing competition in the Indian Automotive market. The changes were recently seen with the new update brought in for the Kwid and also with the launch of a new MPV- The Renault Triber. Now according to some media reports, it is known that Renault is working on entering the hot selling compact SUV market. There are few documents which are leaked on the internet, which indicates that the next compact SUV will be known as the Renault Kiger.
Renault will be developing the Kiger Compact SUV on the same platform on which the Triber MPV was based on. This could be determined as the Triber is 3,995 mm long and it meets with the rules of the Sub 4 meter category. We at MyNewCar are expecting that Renault will showcase the Kiger at the 2020 Auto Expo which will be held in the coming weeks.
As of now, Renault has started testing the Kiger Compact SUV and there are few spy images that are floating around the internet. From these spy images, we get to know that the design could be borrowed from the updated Kwid hatchback. The spy images also showcase a twin slat grille and triangular lights which are similar to the ones on the updated Renault Kwid. In addition to this, the test mule of the Renault Kiger is seen loaded with tripod headlamps that are positioned at the lower end of the front bumper. Moving to the rear, this compact SUV gets sloping windshield with a wiper on it and even a shark fin antenna can be seen at the rear.
Coming to the features, we can expect Renault to load the Kiger with features similar to the Triber. Some common features will be a touchscreen infotainment unit which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear parking camera, cruise control, electric ORVM and a digital instrument console. Meeting with the safety norms, the standard safety kit will come with front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, speed alert system, ISOFIX child seat mounts and seat belt reminder system.
Owing to the BS 6 emission norms, Renault has decided that they will be discontinuing the diesel engines. Hence all the models rolling out from Renault's stable will only be powered with BS 6 compliant petrol engines from the 1st of April 2020. There are chances that Renault may power the Kiger Compact SUV with a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Renault Duster. It is also expected that the petrol engines will be matted with a five speed manual gearbox and a new five speed AMT is also expected
Once launched the Renault Kiger will compete with other competitors such as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, etc in the Indian automotive market. Stay tuned to MyNewCar.in for more information regarding the Reanult Kiger compact SUV.
