The Kona is the first electric car by Hyundai and the first electric SUV launched in India. It has been brought into India by the CKD route and Hyundai have managed to keep the prices competitive enough for an EV. There are two trims Premium and Premium Dual Tone. In terms of colour options there are white, silver, blue, black.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC EXTERIOR

The Kona sure turns heads and looks futuristic. In-fact it is the best looking EV on sale in India. The all LED headlamps look aggressive while the unique 17 inch alloys dominate the look. Being an EV there is no need for a large grille but the Kona gets an unique pattern. The Kona is smaller than Creta and bigger than Venue. Its dimensions are 4180 mm in length, 1800 mm in width and 1570 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2600 mm.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC INTERIOR

The interior of the Kona is an all black affair but the quality is good though the surfaces are of hard materials. The steering wheel is sporty and the centre console design looks futuristic also. You get features like a heads-up display, ventilated/heated seats, a digital instrument cluster plus you can change drive modes plus even decide the amount of regen you want. There is also a 8inch touchscreen with all usual features. Space at the rear is a bit less though.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC DRIVING

The Kona is powered by an electric motor with 136hp and 395Nm of torque while the battery pack is 39.2kWh lithium-ion. To drive the Kona is silent with no engine there and acceleration is really quick in the sportier modes plus you can modulate the regen and not use the brakes at all. It is very quick and a pleasure to drive in the city.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC ENGINE

The Kona gives about 452 km range with an ARAI figure. The real world range depends on your driving style but 280 is something you can get.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC SAFETY

The Kona has safety features like 6 Airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, Isofix plus even a Virtual Engine Sound System.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC MAINTENANCE

The service costs are much cheaper compared to a Creta. For eg : The cost for yearly check up can be Rs.1000 to Rs.2.500.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC RIVALS

The Kona rivals the MG ZS.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC VALUE

The Kona is priced at Rs.23.7 lakh starting and while it is expensive for a car of this size, the Kona for an EV is desirable, packs good range and all the features plus looks good. The best EV you can buy right now.
