Hyundai Verna

The Verna is an upper midsize sedan from Hyundai and is positioned above the Aura. The Verna is a premium sedan with turbo petrol engine along with three automatic gearbox options too. It is also a feature loaded car. In terms of trims on offer there is S, SPlus, SX, SX Opt. MyNewCar recommends the SX version. In terms of colour options there are Fiery Red, Typhoon Silver, Phantom Black, Starry Night, Polar White, Titan Gray Metallic.


The Verna gets the latest Hyundai design language with the big grille and equally big alloy wheels. The design is diamond cut wit 16inch size. There are sharp and bigger headlamps plus well designed tail-lamps. The Verna is a stylish midsize sedan no doubt. The dimensions are 4440 mm in length, 1729 mm in width and 1475 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2600 mm.


The interiors of the Verna are premium with the Hyundai design now looking even better. The quality and feel is class best while the sporty steering wheel impresses. The Turbo petrol gets a sportier all black cabin. The new Verna is filled with features like a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, BlueLink connected features, hands free boot opener, premium audio system plus all the usual features like a sunroof plus rear ac vents etc. Space is decent but the rear seat is best for two.


The Verna gets two petrols and one diesel with the petrol turbo being the best one with the 7-speed DCT with paddle shifters. The turbo is smooth and a great drive while even the 1.5l standard petrol is nice to drive. The diesel is refined too with excellent city plus highway manners.


The Verna gets two petrol engines with a 1.5l petrol first making 115 bhp and 144Nm with either a 6-speed manual and a CVT auto. The other petrol is a turbo one with 120 bhp and 172Nm with a 7-speed DCT auto. The diesel is a 1.5l unit with 115 bhp and 250Nm. The mileage figure is 17.7 kmpl for the 1.5l petrol manual, 18.45 kmpl for the 1.5l AT, the 1.0 turbo AT gives 19.2 kmpl, the 1.5l diesel MT gives 25 kmpl and the 1.5l diesel AT gives 21.3 kmpl.


The Verna has six airbags, emergency stop signal, ABS with EBD, rear disc brakes, drive modes, speed sensing auto door lock, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill Assist Control (HAC), Isofix.


The first service is free at 1500 km or 1 month while the next ones are within 10,000 km or 6 months with cost varying from Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000.


The Verna competes with the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid.


The Verna starts at Rs 9.3 lakh and goes till Rs 15.10 lakh. For the price the Verna is now an excellent choice especially being the best looking car and now having the most features in its class by far. Plus the wide engine range makes this a sure shot winner.
