Maruti launched the S-Presso in 2019 and has been the first hatchback SUV from the car-maker. Maruti calls this car the mini SUV and is a new hatchback that joins in the small car range. It sits above the Maruti Alto and its USP is the ground clearance plus the unique styling. Maruti launched the car in petrol only while there are AMT plus manual gearbox options. There are various trims like Std, LXI, VXI along with the optional and plus trims. There are colour options like Sizzle Orange, Pearl Starry Blue, Metallic Granite Grey, Fire Red, Metallic Silky Silver, Superior White. MyNewCar recommends the VXI AMT. Colour options are Sizzle Orange, Pearl Starry Blue, Metallic Granite Grey, Solid Fire Red, Metallic Silky Silver, Solid Superior White.

The S-Presso looks like an SUV with the extended ground clearance plus the aggressive styling. It has a length of 3565mm, width of 1520mm and height of 1549mm. It has a wheelbase of 2380mm. We like the front-end of the car where there is cladding plus a large grille along with large headlamps and thin fog-lamps. However the 14inch wheels are too small and leave a lot of room underneath the wheel-arches. The rear-end gets tail-lamps like the Maruti Alto 800.

Inside the Maruti S-Presso gets gets an unique design interior which looks different. You will see a sporty three-spoke steering wheel while there is a large circular centre console where the speedometer is kep. There are two ac vents alongside it. Also Maruti adds in colour accents into the interior. There is a 7inch touch-screen that has the latest Maruti SmartPlay studio infotainment system with all the latest smartphone connectivity. It however lacks a rear camera but it has steering controls with voice commands.

The S-Presso is petrol only and gets a BS6 1.0 three cylinder with 68 bhp and 90Nm. The standard gearbox is a 5-speed manual while optional is an AMT. The engine is fairly quick in the city and the fact that the S-Presso is a light car helps in that regard. The car is easy to drive and the electronic power assisted steering is light which makes u-turns easier. In terms of mileage the S-Presso delivers 21.7 kmpl which is same for both the manual as well as the automatic.

The engine in the S-Presso is the refined and powerful three cylinder BS6 petrol engine which makes 68 bhp and 90Nm. Along with a manual the S-Presso gets an advanced AMT gearbox also. The AMT gearbox is as fuel efficient as the manual at 21.7 kmpl.

The S-Presso complies with all latest safety requirements and comes with all Maruti standard equipment of dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belts with pretensions, driver/co-driver seat belt reminder etc.

The S-Presso has first service as free and it is a yearly one or at 10,000 km and next onwards service is per year or per 10,000 km. The first service is free while second onwards it is below or at Rs 5,000.

The Maruti S-Presso competes with the likes of the Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro.

The S-Presso starts at Rs 3.7 lakh to Rs 4.9 lakh and that makes it a value for money car from Maruti. The AMT makes this a car which offers SUV like styling but hatchback like practicality.
