KIA Seltos

The Seltos has been the first ever product by Kia for India and it has been an instant smash hit. It has gone on to be one of the highest selling SUVs ever with a long list of features and an equally long list of variants to choose from. The Seltos in short ticks all the boxes and is a SUV we like. The versions of the Seltos are divided into HT and GT lines with the trims being HTE, HTK, HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus, GTK, GTX, GTX Plus. MyNewCar recommends HTX, GTX respectively. The colour options are Intense Red, Glacier White Pearl, Steel Silver, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Intelligency Blue, Punchy Orange, Silver+ Black, White Pearl + Black.

The Kia Seltos is just the perfect size and one of the best looking SUVs that you can buy with perfect dimensions. It has the traditional styling cues but looks aggressive and premium at the same time. There are LED lights plus skid plates while the grille with the chrome lining looks stunning. The GT line adds sportier red accents all over with sportier details and bigger 17inch wheels. In terms of dimensions it is 4315 mm in length, 1800 mm in width and 1645 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2610 mm.

The interior is filled with features along with excellent quality levels. The design is sporty while having a big 10.25 inch touch-screen in the middle while the sporty steering wheel plus the instruments looks great. Space is very good with the rear seat offering good space for two and even three while even the boot is big enough. The big talking point is the massive features list as the Seltos has it all with a long features list like UVO connect features having an embedded SIM, leather, electric sunroof, heads-up display, eight speaker BOSE audio, lane change monitor, car purifier, rear camera, ambient lighting etc.

The Seltos is a sporty SUV and that shows the way it drives. The engines are refined and silent plus it is also powerful. The pick of the range is the 1.4 turbo petrol with the 7-speed DCT automatic as it is really fun plus being quick and you can even get it with a manual! Even the BS6 1.5l diesel is smooth, refined and quick plus delivering excellent fuel economy. The base 1.5l petrol is also smooth and delivers good punch. The ride is a bit firm but handles roads quite well plus it is light to use in the city.

There are two petrol engines on offer with the Seltos with the starting engine being a 1.5l petrol with  115hp and 144Nm while the gearbox options include a 6-speed manual along with a CVT automatic. The next petrol is the 1.4 turbo unit with 140hp and 242Nm while the gearbox option is a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. The diesel is a 1.5l unit with 115hp and 250Nm with a 6-speed manual and a torque converter auto. The mileage figures are 20.8 kmpl for the diesel MT, 17.8 kmpl for the diesel AT while the 1.5l petrol gives 16.5 kmpl for the manual along with 16.8 kmpl for the CVT. The 1.4l petrol gives 16.1 kmpl for the manual and 16.5 kmpl for the DCT.

In safety it has six airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, vehicle stability management (VSM), electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist control (HAC), ISO-Fix child seat anchor etc.

The first service is free and total charges are at 2,000 within 10,000 km or 12 months while the next service onwards it’s per 10,000 km or yearly with the cost varying from 3,000 to 6,500.

The Kia Seltos has rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Renault Captur, Renault Duster, Jeep Compass.

The Seltos starts at Rs 9.9 lakh and go on till Rs 17.3 lakh for the top-end ex-showroom. At this price the Seltos is brilliant value considering what you are getting in terms of design or features or even the engines. This is an SUV that does it all and has very few weaknesses. No doubt it is selling so well.
